JC, my club doesn't do many field trips... I'm not a fossil collector either, don't know anything about them, and aren't very interested in fossils. I only like rocks, and I'm only a hobbyist. I live in a subdivision, so that limits the amount of rocks I can hoard, and the amount of equipment I can get for rocks.
I just wanted to SEE some Florida agates, and we did some exploring around Tampa (because there are no rocks east of Orlando, only lime/calcite types that we've seen). We got absolutely nowhere... found a lot of shells tho. I think most of the parks around Tampa are picked pretty clean. We're not really looking to do a ton of hounding, just curiosity, and to get some local rocks to trade for not local rocks. Nothing on the scale you and James do.
Next summer, I want to spend some time looking for the geode types on Withalacoochee, but beyond playing with the batch I already have, we're probably not going to go scouring Florida for coral all over, mostly because we don't have much space to keep them.
Wanted to add, some really wonderful people on this forum have shared rocks with me... and til now, I've not had much to return the favor with by way of rocks. That was actually my driving goal to FIND my own Florida rocks... so I was in a position to share something with the people who have so generously shared with me. Florida rocks that would make them go... "Wow!". And something I found myself too. I will meet that goal once I get the rest of these cooked out:).
