Hi folk, I'm just wondering. For right now I have no way of cutting any of the rock I have. My way of cutting has been a chisel & as you know doesn't really cut. Has anyone ever asked a local company if they would slice a rock for you? if so what did it cost, ball park, to cut it if they were willing to. did they charge by the cut, time to cut or was it free?!! any info will be helpful

Goood job filling out your profile! Try the charlotte gem and mineral club www.charlottegem.com/If they dont have a workshop, oe of the members will. You will find the costs are very reasonable using this path.

Shotgunner, tell me if I'm wrong, but y'all in Chino use crystals to find stuff where as us on the 'other' west coast have to use google. right He may be referring to the fact that many are too ashamed of where they live to post it ;D or Too paranoid that "they" will come and steal their rocks and Welcome back to the 'real' world Dr Joe

The comment about a good job on filling out the profile was sincere!! You put your town so I could google it for you. That is a good thing! I am told that I have a black belt in gooogle-foo, fifth degree!! lol No, there are no crystals in chino, but nearby is a town called "Diamond Bar" which was the name of a ranch that covered the area in the late 1800's. Diamond Bar has a locality with some nice quartz crystals. I saw a plate of crystals the size of a dinner plate and every little crystal was fully terminated and gorgeous! Sadly, Chino has no such thing.

you didn't say what kind or how much you wanted cut --- several members on here have cut/sliced for other members -- the "deal" being worked out by the two parties --sometimes free & postage , other times maybe a slab or two , or half/half ,etc. So, what you got ? (pics would help ) ;D think usually the going price is at least $.50 per square inch for commerical cutters ( to pay for diamond blade & wear & time )

For an idea of cost at a rock shop, the local shop here charges $1.25 er sq. inch.

I can see I'm gonna like it here. Google does have more rocks than I could find here in NC, but its not as fun and I keep running out of money on google, humm. I will one day have a saw of my own until that day I'll keep looking for local cutting help. I did hear back from a company however they're closed on Fridays. d#*n it. Something I have to learn is patience. I have time.
