The guage is a really nice feature on this saw but learning to use it was a little tricky. Once I figured it out, it worked great. It was just getting to the point where I had enough nerve to do it was difficult. Overall, the saw worked wonderfully! I used the splash guards that Tony made for it it while using it but found when I got down to the end of the stone that I wanted to hand feed the rest through on most. The biggest thing for me in this was getting over the fact that it's a power tool. I'm hoping this is just a characteristic of the era I grew up in, but I was taught that girls do not touch things like this as a child and it was reinforced my entire life... until I started rocking, lol!
Randy helped me figure out what to get and Tony put it together for me. (And Tony, I'm still using the splash guards you made for it. The oil doesn't go out the top, it goes out the sides, lol!) I love the gravity feed on it and the vice but I think the thing I love most is the spalsh guard screw in the back that raises and lowers the guard! That is great!!! I had it apart and together twice over the weekend and discovered it really is a great machine! There are some modifications I want to make in the mounting of it to the table, but to the saw itself, I wouldn't change a thing at this point.
First use of it, Randy kind of talked me through and it got me over the fact that I could turn it on and off and cut something. Gary helped me on this second run where I really developed an understanding of what it does and how it works. You guys don't know how helpful it is to us ... well, more mature gals, to have you to walk us through these machines! It really is a lot for us because we've been told since birth we aren't capable of understanding them or strong enough to use them. Pat, I know how you feel about the torch. I'm there too, but it's just a thing.... that both of us are capable of doing. Just takes the time and courage to do it.... and a whole bunch of friends who are all cheering you on!
Thanks Guys! It really does mean a lot!!!!
