Was able to take some pics yesterday, and after uploading, deleting, and repeating several times, I finally got IMG codes that worked from photobucket. I can't say that this has been the total problem, but it seems that since it started adding stuff like this "_zpsec41b2e7.jpg" to the image codes, it's been an issue for the RTH forum. I don't know when it started doing this. To keep photobucket from generating this ( before you upload), click on the link that says "Customize your upload options" and then under "Privacy Options," uncheck the box that says "Scramble my file names to make my links hard to guess." No problems once I did this. And then again, maybe the problem was something else? I pretty much hate computers... So anyway, here's some pics of the rocks from the Brenda field trip: Nice colors and patterns, but some fractures Small, but a nice purple color - some earrings maybe? Reds and greens with white fortifications Fractures and pits, good size, but so-so color. Looks like a chunk of meat that went bad - ew. This is the one that reminded me of a bruise Some interesting fortifications Closeup This one looks like an internal organ - something you'd see when you gut a fish... A variety of color A close up Angled shot showing the pits and voids... sigh More fractures A healed fracture, kind of cool All the folds in the next one remind me of Christmas candy! Nice to look at as is, but not a candidate for making a cab Interesting patterns A micro-moss agate? More reds and greens An interesting amygdule Denny, I think a lot of these will become tumbler fodder as well. But it's still a lot of fun, and of course, meeting the other RTHers on the fieldtrip was a blast. Will find some better stuff next year! Again, thanks for looking. Jean

Very cool. Glad you got some good stuff. I have yet to do anything aside from getting the rocks out of my truck and washing them.

Hmmm, now I'm going to have to dig out the slabs I did of the Brenda jasper I collected. I seem to remember it being more solidly red and I wasn't overly thrilled with it. Guess I'll have to do some more. In the meantime, here is a piece of birdseye that I found.

That's a really cool looking birdseye! So, Denny, are you saying that you only picked up red jaspers out there? Jean

Jean,
Where we went at Brenda, that's all I looked for. I brought back probably 50 lbs or so mostly tumblers, some chunks to slab. In ensuing trips, I found the birdseye, green banded rhyolite and some assorted nondescript agates, not to mention numerous very pretty quartz that I didn't bring back. I almost feel guilty to say that I wasn't overjoyed with the rockhounding within about 75 miles of Q, but I'm pretty sure that's due to two reasons: 1) I think local knowlege was invaluable there and I didn't have it, and 2) Oregon has spoiled me!
The one outstanding thing for me (in addition to Desert Gardens) was the people I finally put faces to names and the friends I made. That made everything more than worth it. It's unlikely I will return to Q but it certainly was a trip I won't forget and it was well worth it.

I think Denny is spoiled by Oregon ;-) Guess he didn't hear when Sheri was telling all of them that the stuff with the green on it usually had agate in it. There is a lot of red jasper but sometimes those pieces can surprise you with agate inside. It's not like the solid agate in some areas but the patterns can be very cool (like those in the pieces Jean has on this thread).

I was too - and thanks to Sheri for organizing the trip - and I brought a fair amount back. I've added a couple more chunks to the queue for the saw so I'll see what they look like.
Diane's right about being spoiled by OR. It's just not fair that one state should be so good for houndin'! ;D

Thanks for posting the pics Jean. Outstanding colors & patterns. I'd still try to cab those and fill the pits with epoxy. Got to show them off hanging around your neck!

You sure got some amazing slabs! When I got a box of Brenda, most was pitted and soft in spots so I haven't cut more than a few. I guess I need to get that rock out again an cut a few more and see what I find. I bet you get some great cabs! Fran

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. It was a great day in Brenda, we had a lot of fun. Larry, I will try to get some cabbed up soon. (I was just kidding about using them for tumbler fodder Maybe just some of the smaller, oddly-shaped ones that wouldn't make a cab.) May fill the pits with epoxy, or just leave them alone, au naturale. Jean

I vote for au naturale but that's just my 2 cents worth of opinion.

I'm starting to change my mind. After slabbing several more from Brenda and Bouse, I've really gotten some nice results. Just looking at the outside of the rough I never would've believed it. I really have gotten some pretty slabs. I have Jean to thank for refocusing me on what I collected.

Denny, hate to say I told you so but I did tell you so ;-P Yes, you did. I just finished sorting out all the rough from the Brenda hunt and I didn't realize I have so much. I probably have about 40-50 lbs, most of which I can slab and most of the rest can be tumbled.

Bet a lot of that was your wife's haul. She was doing a lot of looking down and picking up as I recall..lol.
