Howdy folks, Light was not great but I took some pics of todays cuts anyway. For once the Covington actually cut all day and didn't bog down till the wood cast and the end of the day. Thanks for lookin.....Mel Shrinkwood from George West, TX Some Rio Grandes: George West Palm. Replaced so much by silica that the vascular bundles hardly show. Slices from A George West limb cast. The saw did not like this stuff so I left most the cast uncut. Way too full of little crystal vugs to be of much use. Had to sharpen the bade on some Devil's Toenails. This hunk was not showy but sharpened up the blade well. And finally, my favorite Rio Grande of the day: Closer look:

Yes, the red is amazing! The limb cast has crystal vugs? Is it something that can be turned into an interesting piece using the vugs? Texas has such nice material & such a large variety. I like to see the pictures whenever you go to cutting!

Donnie, I don't know about the cabbing. I suppose if I were lucky enough to get one properly oriented in the agate portion of the wood. Those George West limb casts can be pretty agatized and very colorful but the ones with vugs tend to have a real mish mosh of inclusions and some of them are opal while others very soft or earthy. The vugs tend to not be very clean and sparkley too due to those same earthy deposits which seem to coat the vugs. Frankly, I'm just too dang lazy to fool with them and the earthy stuff seems to really bog the saw down when cutting them....Mel
