Hello everybody;
There seems to be a plethora of folks that would like to meet up and rock hound in the Cady Mountains. So, I'll step up and organize a trip. The trip is open to any and all RTH Member's, Families and Friends. All attendees must at least be a member here or know someone who is. I am planning the trip for three days. You need not commit to all the days. Meet us for one morning, or evening.
Let us use Mel's ever so humble input for the basis of the trip.
I'll also sort out how to get to Lavic on dirt roads from There. Perhaps Fish (Dan) can help with that. Thanks Mel!
Let me be perfectly clear. I have no clue where these spots are and am not volunteering to be "guide".
We need or may need to following volunteers:
Guide - somone who knows what the hell they are doing.
Planner - @shotgunner
Cartographer/Navigator - someone to put the plan to maps
Trip Report - Tommy - take/gather images write up trip report
Potluck Committee - Rockhobbit
Prize Committee - someone to find & organize some prizes for the attendees. We most certainly need a prize for the attendee farthest from home.
Gift Committee - someone to organize and send out the gifts to the folks that donated prizes
Rockswap Committee - Dr DG Dan
I have added a poll to help choose the weekend. I took the liberty to narrow it to four weekends this fall. The poll closes at end of August, the date will be chosen and then everyone will have two months or so to plan their attendance.
FAQ: Here is the bones for the Frequently asked questions for this trip. I'll add questions and answers here as they come.
Q: Is 4WD required?
A: dunno, but most of the dirt roads out there are passable by most city cars if driven with care.
Q: Can I come out for just a day trip?
A: Of course! It's all good among friends.
Obviously, there are many questions and things to sort out. That is why I started it now. We have 5 months to organize. This could be EPIC!
Soooooooooooooooooooo................................. who is in?
ME!
paulshiroma, or anybody else local, would you like to make a scouting trip? We can head out for a day and check out dirt roads and the need for 4WD...

Scott: IMHO the hunting grounds actually off the part of Afton Canyon near the campground are fairly hunted out. Best bet for good finds if there has been no flash flooding to turn over gravel beds in the canyon or at the Basin Road end of the canyon is to cross the tracks off basin road and follow the marked dirt road that goes around the east end of the hills and heads kind of south for several miles and then cuts back towards the west/sw into the canyons to Pepto Bismol Hill, back there, there is agate all over the place and the rockhound campsites are very obvious. Road should be easy to follow on Google sat maps or yahoo sat maps. One map I found one time was so good I could see the footpath into the Fluorite Mine Plume beds.....Mel
