Hello all!
This is mostly an information gathering post.
With limited free time I am shifting more of my focus more into slabbing/cabbing and I am thinking about selling my tumbling rough. I am not sure if;
1) there is an interest in it
2) if it is worthwhile to do sell it (is it worth any more than $2-$3/pound having been "pre-tumbled"?)
3) how to sell it, weight? shipping box?
With my work travel schedule, I tend to rough tumble a batch for a week or so in a rotary &/or vibe tumbler, clean out, then start a new rough batch. I always do stage 2 & 3 in my ultra-vibe - when I am home long enough and have the time.
The rough is comprised of a lot of various material. Some I have purchased, some was hounded, and other is crushed material left over from slabbing. There is a lot of variation.
The photos below are indicative of the material. I sort for size, but I do not cherry pick. I have not pulled out any material which may not polish. It is simply tumbled, rinsed, sized and dumped into buckets.
Small stones - (see quarter in photos for scale)
Medium stones - (see quarter in photos for scale)
Large stones - (see quarter in photos for scale)
Is there any interest in rough that has been "started"? What would be a reasonable price, to both parties, for it? Sell by pound, or shipping box? Should I even bother attempting to sell it?
I keep at least one tumbler in constant use on rough grinding my crushed slab ends, "found" material, or material previously purchased. I am trying to gage whether or not to keep up the practice. I am already past the point to finish material faster than I create more rough.
Thanks!
Roger
