Hello fellow Rock Stars ! I live in Western WA and was wondering if anyone could give me advise on places to search for cool rock finds? I'm not looking for a huge lot, this is purely a hobby and passion of mine, and I love nothing more than to go hiking/be outdoors and find awesome rocks. It's difficult to actually get advise on specific places, so if there are any books or specific spots anyone recommends, I'm all ears! I'm also down to go exploring/searching with a few people or a group as well. I appreciate any and all feedback. Cheers and Rock on

OMG. Washington is solid with lots of cool stones. But I cannot add location to you. You are a new member. Do some googling. I just found a very desirable local site (to me), after three years of trying, by using google. Google is your friend1
Perhaps some of our Washington locals have sites to share with you. Good luck. The hills are full of interesting stuff for sure!

I had a great time a few years ago hunting thunderegg matrix above the Little Naches River not far from Naches, WA. It's an easy site to reach and very pretty country too and nice campsites. Also not far from Whistling Jacks that has great food. I posted driving instructions to the site in another thread a few weeks ago ( slabs section I think but I ain't sure)....Mel
Found my post: It's in the slab thread section, page 4. Started by kewlimages and titled Fossil slabs for the day. I posted driving instructions to the dig site...Mel

Gobs of pet. wood [Mostly replacement] at Saddle Mtns. north of Mattawa. The stuff varies from tiny "chicken bones" to a couple hundred lbs. Digging is easy and it takes a good polish. 1 mile E. of Mattawa, turn left [north] on R Road North. At the first fence crossing, stay to the left road, the right one is a driveway to a house. Follow the road about 6 miles up the hill, heading toward a communication tower set near the top. The diggings are about the last 1/2 mile before the tower. DO NOT go beyond the communication tower set, you would then get on land owned by a VERY grumpy rancher. Be careful to observe the 25 M.P.H. speed limit in Mattawa, and watch for rattlesnakes. Also be sure to visit the Ginko Petrified Forest center and adjacent rock shop at Vantage, about 18 miles North of Mattawa and across the river. Good hunting. Larry

Another book, actually a set of 4 very thin volumes, is the Rockhound's Guide to Washington by Bob and Kay Jackson. It'a from 1974. I found it at the state library, but you need to go through your local library It was fun to look through and I went back and ordered the other 3 volumes - so you'll need to wait a few weeks to borrow them. Great drawings - we found the old Cleaveland mine near Hunters. Lots of no trespassing signs, but I did find a small piece of galena with crystals. And join a local rock club or 2. Lots of field trips will get you started. Judy

I've been super busy with work, so haven't had a chance to research yet...went out for a hike at Twin Falls off of I-90 and snagged up some pretty specimens for the tumbler...
