My honey and I are going on a road trip up to extreme norcal to do some hiking and rock hounding. One of the hounding days were going to spend poking around the Davis creek/Lassen creek areas looking specifically for sheen obsidians.
I'm looking to spend some time in the Cedarville area as shown in one of my rockhounding books. What can anyone tell me about that area - I know hounds don't like to give up secret locations but in general if anyone can confirm or discredit the information in the books regarding collecting agates and pet wood there I would appreciate anything you can give me.
Also, were going to head down through Nevada to Reno and will have some time to stop off along the way so if there are any other locations that should not be missed on that route please share them with me.
I'll share rough and slabs with anyone who can point me to a new and productive location that I end up being able to hit. Thanks!

Since you are going to be so close, why not go up to Mcdermitt, there's a world of rock to be found in that area. The books we have seen about the area seem to stop about where the good hunting starts. If you know little about the area, I'll fill you in, at least based on our 8-10 trips there. Or head up thru Plush and get some sunstones. I'll keep an eye out here, or PM me. One thing to check on is range fires in the area, if they are still burning, some of the area roads might be closed. Thanks Larry – McDermitt and northern Nevada is a great suggestion for another time but little too out of the way for this trip. We are going staying the Alturas area and mostly poking around in the Warner Mountains and maybe making it up to southern Oregon. Anywhere we hit in Nevada would have to be on the far western side on our way down to Reno.
Does anyone know if the Hayden Hill location is open for collecting?
