Howdy any of you who are avid shooters. If you're a pistol shooter like me, you've probably not been shooting as much as you'd like due to ammo shortages and the attendant price gouging by many stores. I pretty much check my favorite suppliers on a daily basis and have noticed Natchez Shooters Supply is finally starting to get some ammo in. The prices are a bit inflated (mostly on 9mm, $5 a box more than normal) but nothing like the buck a cartridge BS at our local gun stores. ($49.95 for 50 rounds of generic 9mm....unbelievable!). Natchez is rationing how much you can buy but they have .22, 9mm, and .40 S&W all at decent prices for these days.....Mel

Must mean that now that Uncle Sam has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar, Buying tons of arms and ammo for the IRS, they've been forced to ease off.

literally BILLIONS of rounds for "homeland security". Attempting to beat the "well armed militia" in the small arms race.
Good, I'll check 12 gauge supply. Haven;t shot in months for fear of running out of ammo.
Thanks for the field report Mel. I appreciate it.

I'm on the list for a case of 44mags. Can't wait to pay for that lol.
I don't know how anyone can't put 2 and 2 together regarding such things as homeland security buying it all up. Pretty sure it has something to do with the fiat money system imploding and the chaos afterwards. Just my opinion. Who knows but things def aren't what they seem.

I agree that it is pretty obvious that they are scared as they should be. Packed away a pile of the stuff in a special place in the mountains many years ago where we can only be taken by a whirly bird with the big ammo. Enough to hold out the rest of my life time or until we run out of venison, elk, bear, rabbits, rock chucks, squirrels or anything else that moves. Almost needed a backhoe to bury it all. Back when it was dirt cheap my son and several friends bought several cases every pay day for a year. The tough part will be the day to day necessities like coffee and donuts. lol We are not alone. There are a lot of survivalists in Montana and Wyoming that are prepared. It won't be easy but we see it as better than the alternative. Jim

Scott: Check the prices on 12 gauge ammo at Sportsman's Guide before you order too. They are well stocked and usually cheaper than Natchez and they have larger lots for discounted prices with no rationing....Mel

This may be a dumb question, but is there a shelf life on ammo? My ammo (.22s, .357s, .38s and several shotgun shells) is stored in a dry place and all, but I haven't bought any in years. Heck, probably haven't even been shooting in at least fifteen years! So would it be reasonable to expect that when I need to use a gun, would I have many misfires? Jean

Jean, Theoretically there is a shelf life and most of us shooters try to turn over our supply regularly ( I date my boxes when I buy them) Rimfire ammo like .22s are supposed to be shorter lived. However in practice, ammo lasts a real long time, longer than most of us will live. I used to shoot vintage military rifle competitions and some of the ammo I fired was old Berdan primed corrosive stuff dated from the 1930's and it still shot quite well. I also recently shot up some 22 ammo at least 30 years old with only a couple of misfires and misfires are not uncommon with brand new 22 stuff. Reloads tend to not last as long as some are not sealed as well as commercial stuff. The Russians are making a lot of new rifle ammo for sale here now that is intended for long storage. Practically speaking, though, you might want to keep your ammo in your self defense piece real fresh ( I do!) target and hunting stuff pretty much lasts longer than you'll need it to. They say heat can shorten shelf life and it's best to store ammo cool and dry but I've always lived in hot places with no problems.....Mel
PS: The new plastic hulled shotgun shells rule.Dang things are pretty much weather proof and seem to last a real long time and be dependable. I've shot a lot that are really old.

I will check to be sure. I checked, all they have tonight is 12gauge 00 buck for $1 a shell in 250 round flats. Maybe tomorrow!

Scott, I''m a buyers club member at the Guide and they periodically send me free shipping coupons. I just got 250 rounds of Sellier and Bellot OO buck for 47 cents per round with free shipping. Great deal and the stuff shoots real fine. I'm a tightwad so I always wait for the good deals *L*.....Mel

Ah, a wise guy, eh? Yeah, you wish, Lee! If only one of six fires when I need it to, I'm good. As long as the round stays together, and doesn't send the lead into the barrel at such a slow velocity as to get stuck. Happened once when I was taking a class down at the PD range. You have to shoot their reloads, and I got a dud. Maybe just a primer, and no gunpowder? Anyway, during the safety portion of the class, they STRESS that if that ever happens when you're on the line, set the weapon down (pointing downrange, of course), take a couple steps back and raise your hand! The instructor used a pencil to push the lead out of the barrel. I still have it, shows the groove pattern of my Ruger real well! Jean

*S* I had that happen at a metallic silhouette shoot one time. 44Mag custom reloads that my guy apparently left the powder out of. Mine stuck real good and I had to knock the bullet out with a long dowel. Very annoying experience!.....Mel

hahaha Yea, I know but in their big eye they look for certain words to pop up. If you notice in my post the only word I used that might pop up a flag is "survivalists". There is so much on the net and TV about survivalists (even naked ones) that they could not read all the flags. Besides, we would be there before things got totally out of hand. I have a pickup with two tanks that are full all the time and I have a propane setup so I can switch the pickup to run on propane or gas. The propane tank I have is 100 gallons. That gives me a range of 1430 miles without adding fuel or heat while everything gets set up. My son does but I really do not think anything is going to go down but it never hurts to be prepared. Plus, if everything turns around it will be a hell of a lot of fun getting rid of it all. Jim
