No no, i am studying the dynamics of the quote.
I see why you guys edited. I understand.
But it surprised me that your edit did not change your sentence unilaterally.
So if you get quoted and you want to change it the quoter has dominion over the quotee

So if you get quoted and you want to change it the quoter has dominion over the quote *Psst Helen, I think that Scott guy is an idiot too When you 'quote', you are simply copying the text and adding the 'quote' command to it. Anyone can change the quote to whatever they want, it's not linked to the post. That's why it's pretty meaningless as a record of what someone said, since they can change it at will.

For the record, I do not believe I edited my post. I deleted it, because helen deleted the source materials. All deleting/editing began with Helen.

So,do you want me to erase this or not. Helen, if you denied that the quote did not exist you would be considered a liar by those involved. If you plead 5th, then people would assume that you wrote it. So a quote can leave a huge cloud of doubt, just saying.

That's up to you, James, it's really no biggie. If you want to see the accuracy of what's said, you check the date stamp. No one can change that. You can tell if someone changed their comments at all times by checking the date/time on top of the post, and the post immediately after that.
It's generally a good idea to go back and delete excess personal information (anyone's and including your own) and excessively snotty comments after someone's seen it. Every post on this forum is searchable via google, and in some cases, we sound like 5 year olds fighting on a playground.

I will be glad to delete. I am just using this as a harmless example. An example that a quote can be damaging.
It's like this; if i type something on the edge or abrasive or damaging it leaves me nervous that it will come back and bite me.
All communication here is a record for the most part. I would always assume that something that someone wants erased can be a problem.

Given all the flying comments that hit the fan the last week, we'll be very busy if we had to delete ALL of it, but ok, I'll delete some of my more inflammatory responses too:).

I did not notice anything out of the ordinary last week. Maybe there is something on your conscience. I could certainly understand that. I am certainly not the delete police. I was just studying the art of deletion, editing, quoting
