Many of you have read about a friend of mine who has started making spheres too. His name is Jim and he is the father of kidlet's best friend. He and the fambly live in a little town high up in the San Gabriel Mtns of SoCal. It's called Baldy Village. Baldy Village is a small enclave of hardy, quirky, lovable folks who want to be away from the bustle of city life but like the easy access to it's amenities. Great little town really. Baldy Village is geologically significant in SoCal. Nearby is Cascade Canyon. Cascade Canyon has a played out Lapis Lazuli mine, small fluorescing ruby colored corundums and a host of other materials. OK, background laid. Tonight I am at a high skrool function speaking to kidlet's friend and the friend's lovely mother. My phone makes the Angry Birds "Weeeee!!!" sound telling of a notification. Lovely mother says "what was that?". I have a look and start laughing. Almost crying really. She say's "what's up?" I said well, here we are chatting and I get the notification announcing the 3rd Annual Baldy Village Lapis Festival." Lovely mother's hubby Jim started at lapidary class because the promoter is a classmate and they met at the festival last year. I ask you what are the flippin' odds of the Lapis festival announcement coming to my phone at exactly the time I am speaking with Jim's lovely wife at a high skrool function? I see this woman once a month at most! We both got a huge kick out of it. Serendipity aside; the lapis festival has proven to be a big deal here. Jewelry, cutting materials, crafts, geodes... and more. Plus in October the weather is better than fabulous. Here is a link to a pdf for the festival. I hope to go this year. Maybe you will too.

Aw man, I would love to attend, but I'll be in Trona. My kids love Lapis because of minecraft. They got a bunch from Pakistan at the last gem show we went to.
Shotgun, have you collected up at Cascade? The boulders there are loaded with corundum.

Yes, I have. Haven't found corundum yet. Maybe we should meet up. I need a sample to send a friend on here that likes flourescents.
Need to go after a storm and walk the streams for lapis too.

I have the corundum. If this board would let me post pictures I could show you. Pinks, blues and greens. There are boulders as big as cars loaded with it. I'd be more than happy to go up, but winter is coming so sooner is better. Heading out to Black Jade mountain tomorrow, Sun.

Ok, you two knock it off. I am soooo jealous. I am not going to make it down that way this winter but if I do not make it next winter it will be because I am dead. I love festivals, working or looking. Jim
