OK folks, as many of you know, I met with elementary for a scouting run into the Cady's Lowell had a bigger trip planned with John @ Diamond Pacific so that is where we met. I was introduced to Lowell's good friends Bob Ron and his lovely bride Jean. Lowell jumped in my truck for the ride out and the balance of the trip. His goal was to fill my mind with so much information I'd never remember it all give me tips and pointers about where and how to find the "good stuff". He also provided a pound or two of samples for show and tell. This to let folks know what they are looking for.
Yes, that is a pet wood log.
So what did we see and where did we go? We started at the fluorite mine and I got a huge chunk of Jasper. I found Mel's yellow plumey stuff, I didn't get any cuz we were off to the next location before I could go back and get some.
I dont have field pics of the area (blame the dumbass photographer) but plenty of material pix. So, here ya go!
ooopsie! Nice laces!
Bug hunk of yellow red brecciated jasper. This is 35# or so andBob Ron grabbed it before I could. I figured, if he wants it, so be it. It's just a rock! So he humps it 200 yards downhill and over dale out to the truck, hands me the stone and say's "here it's yours". Bob Ron is in his 60-70's and is totally bad@ss. I could have humped this rock out, but he decided he should do it. Both he and Jean hiked my @ss off! Lowell too!
Lowell humped to the top of the hill and found half a giant geode, agate lined calcite filled
Could be agate, could be agate calcite (anotherdifferent colored but similar piece was both)
Sagenite spray
Copper? Stain only
Calcite specimen
Bob Ron & Jean (not holding hands, but it looks like it. This is the last stop. "Seam agate" we were attempting to go around the backside of the flurite mine mountain and eneded up in the next mountain!
Botroidal's? Plumes without the agate?
Bob Ron is onto something! lol
Cathedral geode in the making?
another?
Didya ever wonder why they call it "seam agate?
Behind my new buddy Lowell, is Afton Canyon. We are about 9 miles from the industrial plant out there, and that is another mile or so from I-15. The view is northwest from our vantage point. We had cellular service here!
After stopping at 5 spots (I rested at two!) I stored the coords for each in anticipation of the upcoming RTH extravaganza trip. Then we had to make the ONE HOUR cruise on dirt roads out to the highway. From there 2.5 hrs home and a nice meal with the bride.
\Here is a crappy cabochon I made from a slab sized piece of seam agate. I like green red white, too bad for the fracture and pitting.
