Hey fellow NW hounders and those who have visited.
A friend is coming to town this week/end from British Columbia. We found out he had never been to the ocean before. We decided to take him for an overnight trip to Ocean Shores Sunday to Monday. We are going to go beach combing Monday and have read in older books about Agates and other materials at Brown's Point.
We are not able to travel further south due to time restraints and was wondering if there are other locations to seek out?, (we are leaving from Seattle)
Also, what other materials are on the beaches there that I can look up online to memorize and search for?
Thanks for your input. Cheers, Matt

WTF agates? What kind of agates are those? Ohhhh, you mean "Want To Find."
Sorry I can't help you, but I'm sure someone will post some info for you.
Good luck, Matt!

There's some really nice carnelian I've found down near the marina. Beautiful, deep red stuff. The locals even have a name for it, 'Chehalis Red'. There's a bunch of pet wood and jasper there too. You might even run into some of the illusive Olympic Poppy Jasper. I've heard there's some fossils to be found there, but I've never found any. Good time of the year to be going! Fewer people than in the spring and summer tourist season, and the fall and winter storms will likely have brought with them some interesting rocks. Good luck!

I lived there for over a year in 2005 Browns point on low tide there is alot to be found. You park there and walk around the road which heads East. At the far end there is tumble sized jasper and agates. Sometimes you can see the old boat wreck out there too. Its a very nice walk and pretty on a clear day. Have fun Also 40 mins or so to the north is the Native American town of Qunault cant spell it but the river meets the ocean there nice stuff to the south of it on low tide as well. Have to ask the local mkt for permission to walk out there I never had any problems tho.
