I'm flying to Idaho Sunday March 9th. Packing up and should be leaving on the 10th or 11th.
We're moving my mother from Star to Salem, and she and I are planning a 1.5 to 2 week rockhounding trip on the way. We have a few stops planned, from Idaho all through Oregon, including the sunstone mines, Glass Buttes, Hampton Butte, and anything else that seems promising or fun.
Looking for advice or info, maps, whatever, for places to go, and looking for anyone that might want to meet up with us along our trip and do some hunting together. It would be awesome to meet some new rockhounds and have some new experiences!
If anyone is interested, or has advice or info to share, or both, shoot me a message and I'll give you my email or cell number so I can keep everyone updated of our trip.
Pretty much, if it's between Boise and Salem, and if it's below Washington and above California, it's a possibility. We need to stretch our 8 hour drive into 2 weeks! :-)

No takers for rockhounding buddies? ;-) looks like we're heading down the 95 from star, hitting a few places, then to mcdermitt, then reno, back up to mcdermitt, then what looks like El rancho, or, then malheur lake, stinking water creek, burns, hart mountain, hampton butte, then on toward prineville, then lowell, or, then molalla, or, then finally arriving in lyons where she's moving to.

I live in Eugene. If you want to stop by and cut some of your finds we may be able to arrange that.

No I haven't been to that. When I used to live in Oregon, want in to rocks much yet. Now I live in California and don't get much chance to go up there anymore.

That sounds like a fun trip. I'm still in AZ until late March so won't be able to meet up with you. You might check with Tony (catmandewe) about locations because he knows a lot of that area if not all. I'm not familiar with the area or I'd give you information myself. Happy hounding and safe travels.

I have 35 inch BFG all Terrain with a 1/2 ton locking differential 4wd truck and I can get stuck in those rds easy I had 3" of mud on the top of the hood one time trying to get out. and my truck is lifted 4" Have a fun time and enjoy!!

Wow! Yeah we haven't run into much mud. We always seem to go places with 3 feet of snow because we're idiots ;-) and then we drive through it. Because, well, we're idiots ;-) Gotta get those rocks!

The Glass Buttes Knap In is 21 March to 31 March. This would be the beat time frame for GB. Many of us can guide. Look for the red F-350 crew cab with shell, or the yurt with varnished door. Woody

We're in Burns, OR now. Went to stinking water creek to look for petrified wood. Bust. No wood anywhere. Remembered an opal site outside Buchanan, OR on our way back and stopped there with a half hour of daylight left. Got a couple pieces of solid stuff. Gonna head back tomorrow, then do some laundry, then head on to Hart mountain on monday.
