Hopefully this is the right place to post this. My mother and I are about 1/8 of the way through our Boise to Salem rockhounding trip. We're in Reno now and will be for 2 more days, then back up to Oregon.
Figured it was an off chance, but we're running out of room/weight capacity already, and I was hoping someone could offer up an inexpensive trailer, or advice on how to get one, anywhere along our trip.
If memory serves, it's back up to Mcdermitt, NV after Reno, then to Malheur Lake, Stinking water Creek, Burns, Hart Mountain for sunstonss, Prineville, then Lyons, OR.
Any help, offers, or advice is appreciated!
-Mike

I had one similar that I put a box on...from experience, those 8" wheels are not built for highway speeds - 40-50 mph maybe ok, but 70 will kill the bearings. Lee #1

Not to speak of the tires Lee. Those little 8" tires would be spinning so fast at 50 mph that they'd be smoking after a few miles. That truck bed trailer would handle highway speeds, and more weight.

I took one from near Buffalo, NY to Colorado Springs...smoked the bearings. Got them fixed and the trailer made it back home ok. Smoked the engine on my little Pontiac wagon on my way back home. Came home with an Astro van. Same trip I got a detached retina in the Springs. Fun time was had by all.

You can use mine if you want to swing by and pick it up. It would probably be cheaper to search craigslist and find a pick up bed trailer along the way though. I bought a pickup bed trailer in Lakeview Oregon for 75 bucks so keep an eye out and you will probably find one.

We're checking one out in silver springs, NV right now. Truck bed trailer for 200. Hopefully it works out. Lost title no Reg and trailer lights may not work, and tires may be old and cracked though ;-)

I has the same predicament last fall, ended up just renting a uhaul trailer. Got home for $100 with about 1500 lbs. Way more than my poor minivan could hold along with my wife and two kids and all our other vacation stuff.

We picked up a '68 Ford F-100 (according to the guy) truck bed trailer for $175 in Fallon, NV. Lights wiring is shot. Bought magnetic base trailer lights, an adjustable height hitch with ball from walmart, new 10 ply 225 75 15 trailer tires from les schwab. In it for about $500 total. Not bad, I don't think. Now we just need a camper she'll for it and we'll be set ;-)
We're in Burns, OR now. Went to stinking water creek to look for petrified wood. Bust. No wood anywhere. Remembered an opal site outside Buchanan, OR on our way back and stopped there with a half hour of daylight left. Got a couple pieces of solid stuff. Gonna head back tomorrow, then do some laundry, then head on to Hart mountain on monday.

Thanks Mark! Maybe once I'm done with this trip we can try to work out a swap again.
