I am in a crappy hotel in Montpelier ID which has no hot water. I am pissed off to the N'th degree.
Anyway, the Yellowstone was way too high to collect agate and the area around Ruby Reservoir is really high, so I have not piled up the rock I anticipated.
I climbed a mountain that I thought only I knew about and found the source of the drizzle of agate and geodes down the mountain. Some tard has been hitting ultra top quality agate with a hammer. The face at the top of the mountain has a outcropping of agate of such quality that it numbs the mind. Almost all of it is shattered in the face. I dug out a full nodule that was showing just a tiny bit. It took almost an hour and I knew I was risking my time and daylight on it. It paid off. I pulled an agate/geode/thunderegg almost the size of a volleyball out of the rhyolite face. I found fossils that are not supposed to exist. Details will die with me so the spot is not killed by the feds.
I spent the last 4 hours at the pub so I am sure I missed something. I will fill in the blanks later.

Well, I went to ID and went all over the place. Got a bit of fluorite some geodes from Rabbit Springs, some agate of some mystery sort. I hope it turns out well because I got a bunch of it and some sort of agate that I have no clue what it looks like inside. I am in White Sulpher Springs right now about to get back in the spring. I am trying to kill time so I can go to the Bozeman show.

Jealousy prevails across the land. Even with high water and busted agates you are still out there doin' it. Would like to see a few pics of what you picked up. And some of the damage that was left behind.

I wish I would have taken the camera up on top of that mountain. Even if not for the agate which I did not expect to find like that, but for the pics of the mountains I could have gotten. I honestly thought I was going to find float and a small wall which had a bunch of small geodes sticking out of it. I never found that small wall. I found the big wall at the top of the mountain instead. Completely by accident. I hit a point where the agate just stopped and fugured that I had hit the height limit of the agate. Then, just in sight about 50 feet up the mountain I could see what looked like a big agate chunk. It was! And it had friends. I kept climbing which became treacherous because of the route I took and hit the big wall. Agate everywhere. Someone had even left a pile behind which they had smashed out of the face. The only tool I had with was a flat screwdriver because the last time I had nothing and the screwdriver is all I would have needed. That screwdriver is how I got the huge nodule out of the rhyolite.
After I get home and get everything sorted out I will post pics.

I don't care much for gold unless it is really easy and it rarely is.
I did get a few agates, and after the Bozeman show, I plan to try to hit my familiar spots again to see what I can add. I was not aware of the fossils by Forsyth. I will be there for sure some time in the next few days because I rented a storage unit to keep the stuff I did not need after all.
Hope to see you in Bozeman. I will be the one in the yellow chev with MN plates.

May catch up with you in Bozangeles. We're heading up there in the morning. too darn wet to do anything around here anyway. White Cherokee with WY plates.
I Expect the gold at Cooke City is hiding under a blanket of white-they just got the road opened.

I went to the Bozeman show and had a good time. Spent a lot of money.
After that I headed east and tried to hit some spots on the river which is much higher than it was a week ago. I still filled a bucket at Fallon and one at Glendive. I am slowly working my way home to MN now. I made a mistake and left Glendive in the evening which means that I will miss almost all of the museums and zoos on the way home. I may take it easy and pull off somewhere and sleep for the night and hit the Fargo zoo in the morning. Glendive is only 10 hours from home so I could go all of the way home tonight if I really want to. I really don't want to because once I hit the house the vacation is over. I suppose I could hit the MN Zoo on the way home.

Just get those pics sorted and posted. Really looking forward to what you found...fossil and agate wise. Did you have a tip about the agate wall or did you just find it out hounding? I love the mountains and need to poke around this summer, but need to get the geologic maps so Im not poking around wasting my time...
