Wondering if anyone is from ct too?
I've been looking for places that I might be able to find something more than granite, quartz and shale.... There's a lot of that around here. I even went so far as to look for mines where the general public can pay a nominal fee and go digging around for stuff. Nothing! There's only one mine where you can contact the property owner and get permission to walk around looking for rocks and gemstones but doesn't guarantee you'll be allowed. CT has really rich geology. Chrysocolla (there was a huge copper mine in the state at one time but it's been sold for development and the site is all residential neighborhoods now) bornite, prehnite, heliodor, nephrite, aquamarine, garnet & sapphire (that mine is closed to the public) opals, moonstones, agates, amethyst, citrine, tourmaline, zircon and beryl (the mine you can ask for permission)
You can probably tell I looked into this a bit lol But was hoping someone would know something I missed.
CT also has really ridiculous mineral collecting laws, basically it's illegal....any state or federal lands only allowed for educational purposes and you need a permit from the dep, or private property you need permission from the owners as they own the mineral rights on their lands.
