You da man !!! Outstanding piece of coral, second picture close up is off the hook. Those were in the most grotesque black muck you ever have seen. Some were to big to pick up. The muck was captured by a rock out crop serving as a half dam and created a slow whirlpool on the side of the river. They had been sitting in the muck a long time.

Freaking awesome coral you've found there James!. Love the pressure washed pic!.....Mel The shin on my fingertips gets worn thin collecting it. It has tiny solidified needles on the surface. And a lot of it is concreted in clay and must be pulled or pried out.

That's a nice one, doesn't look like anything you've put up before. I can imagine how abrasive it is.

Sounds like some oyster shucking gloves are in order there. That piece is above and beyond any other coral you have posted. Looks like you keep beating the world record. Remember the little people and where you came from. Jim

That's a nice one, doesn't look like anything you've put up before. I can imagine how abrasive it is. This location is 15 miles downstream, 2 miles downstream from the next boat ramp. This coral has much larger polyps cavities and makes up about 25% of the coral at this distant location. i have found a few at the 15 mile upstream location where I always go. So it opens me up to a new type. I have a photo of a couple of them from the upstream site that has yellow clays. This is the stuff I find almost all the time. Corallites much smaller and different.

Awesome! I need to get with you and get some idea where a couple of newbie's could go and find some coral! You guys got a kayak/canoe ? I get a hotel in Clyattville Keith. It's about 4 hours drive. So it is a deal getting there and setting up. Some of the spots are too far for kayak. But plenty of collecting within a half mile. I have to warn people that conditions can be formidable from the snake/gator/mosquito critters that share the area. And I often have to leave on the drop of a hat due to weather and infrequent low river levels. Most guests do not fare well... But i will be glad to give you a heads up as soon as I know that i am leaving next time. My small boat does carry passengers well but pulls a string of kayaks w/no problem. It can be a big help when getting up the shoals having extra man power. But if I tow take kayaks way downstream and I happen to have engine problems we have a problem getting back. And there are virtually no one living on this river so rescue index is high. All that mentioned, I have to leave the decision up to the guests . Just letting you know that it is a bit of challenging expedition.

But you, sir, set the bar at a whole new level of crazy. Love it. Rock on.

Remember the little people and where you came from. Jim I am the lowest form of human life Jim. That river is at dung level. Full of layers of petrified muck. And we know what muck is. Gloves a good idea. Does help to have naked hands to feel underwater.

Once again, some mighty fine looking corals, James. Especially like those first two in the second batch of pics posted.
