For the last two years I have been enjoying the $12 per gallon price for walmart mineral oil but I just went in for 8 pints today (one gallon) and the price went up to 1.98 per pint which translates out to $15.85 per gallon.
It still beats tractor supplies prices and walmart is closer so I'll keep using it but that is a little over a 25% increase in price.

Well, crap. That's what I've been using, too. When inflation hits the cost of your laxatives you know you're in deep doo doo.

Oh, man, the secret must be out. They don't really think that people have been buying it to ingest as a laxitive, do they?
That's what I use as well. Guess they had to raise the price on something, to offset cuts they've made on other items.
If all the folks using it in saws boycotted it, wonder how big of a dent it would make in their sales, and not just of the mineral oil? I know I always pick up other things when I go there. (But never on weekends, nor the 1st or 15th of the month, this is a military town, lol. Nor after dark, best time is first thing in morning, while other Walmart shoppers are still in bed.)

OK, I'm new and don't know what you are using this for. Little help?

As coolant/lubricant for rock cutting saws. There are many different things that can be used (kerosene and motor oil, water soluble oil, even some things made specifically for cutting rocks), but it seems there are a lot of us here that like to use mineral oil. Walmart is just one source for it.

We use it as safe cutting oil in our saws.

I also use mineral oil,but get it from a guy that recycles it from electrical transformers, taking the chemicals out...I get it for $5.00 a gallon...I have a go to guy that gets it for me,I just supply my own lidded bucket..Give him $20.00 and the next day,I have my oil.. Went to the shop one time, but I stayed in the trk...LOL

I need to find a source for less expensive saw oil. The rock clubs shop will be reopening in a new location and I am hoping to find a way to get them away from the toxic but cheap hydraulic oil. They used to use the transformer oil too, it is pretty much pure mineral oil and it has a very high flash point and low viscosity.

Should have guessed! Long before I found much better methods, I used a variety of stones to sharpen things and, oiled my stones with this on occasion. Still do I guess, just prefer ceramic rods and strops for fine edges.
