I came across this unit in a pile of lapidary "junk" someone gave me. 10 points to the first person who can identify it - it might not even be lapidary related, I have absolutely no idea. It seems to be some sort of lathe ... the two aluminum discs adjust open and closed but only for a small amount - maybe as wide as ring?

With the gear head motor, it'll run at low RPM's. I'm guessing some sort of tool grinder or sharpener. I'd clean it up & plug it in to see what sort of action you get out of it.

No clue. Just going to guess at some kind of press? It's very small for a press...probably about 15" in overall length.

Looks to me like it spins some kind of various plates with a cutting edge. Grooving tool maybe.
How fast is slow? Jim

Jim for making serrations in a knife blade? the clamp shown in one photo seems to be designed to hold thin flat plate of some sort. Maybe for working something with sheets of stained glass? Oh I hope you figure it out, I hate unsolved mysteries!

A polytronic grinipulator. Just kidding. Looks like some kind of tool sharpener as mentioned. Sure is well made. mohs ?? Does the clamping screw assembly slide left to right on the spinning shaft ? if so, it about has to be a sharpener of some sort. slow rotation to avoid heat buildup ? scissors sharpener ?

Tommy, I showed your photos to Rick this morning. He said he thought it may be a key making machine and that it looks as if it is missing some parts. ??

I'm surprised I never seen anything like it in sharpening or locksmiths that resemble that machine. It sure does look like something from those crafts. Maybe for the leather trade? Some sort of slitter?

I just googled vintage key cutting machines. Lots of pics, but no match. It does look like it could be some sort of key machine with a few parts missing. The thing that throws me off is the gear reduction motor. Key cutters turn at high speed. I love mysteries like this. We gotta figure this one out.
If nothing else, there should be parts in it that can be adapted to lapidary use.

Watchmakers Lathe? Google searches turned up things that looked like this: and Granted it looks like yours turns from both sides, but maybe this will get people headed in the right direction?
