The sphere is right at 3" in diameter. Once I find a good box, I'm sending it to Rattlehead and then I'll work on making a sphere out of the other big core.

Outstanding sphere Justin! I need to look into picking up some of that material.
What blades do you use on your super grinder?

Anyone tumbled this stuff? Love to see tumbled pieces if there is a thread somewhere. That is a very impressive sphere. Septarian nodules are really cool. I have to get over to Lake Michigan to hunt for these some day. My kid tumbled a couple a long time ago. I thought they would under cut worse because of the calcite veins but maybe because these were done in a rotary it helped prevent that. Not a great shine but still cool. Do you guys save all your saw scraps and tumble them? seems like sphere cutters would have tons of good tumbling scraps from cutting off all those cornners. Chuck

Thanks for posting that Chuck. Your son did a fine job tumbling those! Yup, I'm gonna have to pick up some of this to play with. Found some on eBay, but I'll try to contact rattlehead to see if he is selling first.

Chuck I think the dark area is phosphosiderite so soft like calcite. Rattle head rocks.

I got mine from rattlehead. I think he collects fairly often. I also got some finished pieces since I can't easily do spheres myself...just love them!
