Agate with Manganese This one's either Nephrite or massive form Grossular Garnet. Haven't gotten around to getting SG yet...the color's a little so-so, but the golden colored metallic inclusions look interesting.

Beautiful materials, washingtonrocks! Please update us with your findings on the second piece. What is the cab in your avatar? It's a beauty!

uh... am I the only one seeing the 2nd photo as possibly the front legs of a dog with one leg wrapped up in gauze?
And I agree with Jan, that avatar cab is a beaut, love to see a larger pic of it.

Haha captbob, I'm always seeing pictures in my rocks, but I just can't seem to spot this poor, gauze-legged dog you speak of! fossilman, I seriously can't wait 'til I get to put that beauty to the wheels! gingerkid, snowmom, SG for the second one is coming in at 3.1...Puts it in the top end of the range for Nephrite. Has all the other tangible qualities of jade as well...Hmm...I'm thinking the metallic stuff is either pyrite and/or chalcopyrite.

Oh, and the cab in my avatar is a funky Chert breccia. Unfortunately, the photo washes out the nice colors present. Pinks and oranges on green.

2nd pic is epidote in probably quartzite... common around here. I thought about epidote or zoisite too, but the SG is a little too low. It could be vesuvianite...Can't remember SG for that off the top of my head...This stuff's really tough. The sledge hammer has a nice little bounce to it when I strike it. There probably is a quartz component to it either way. Are you located in Washington, glennz01?

No, i'm further up in AK, the light green stuff will be the epidote (from replacement usually).. the other stuff just looks like green quartz to me.

Not fair, the picture changed. Really. No, not seeing things. but... but... washingtonrocks - do you have a small white dog, like a poodle or something? Has this possible white dog of yours had it's right front leg wrapped up in a white gauze in the past? Did you take a picture of it which is on your hosted pictures space? *sigh*

Toughness definitely makes me think jade as a possibility. A lot of other minerals are hard, but not so tough.
