Hi, michaelgeorge, and welcome to RTH! Where is the specimen from? Maybe orangish massive calcite with some quartz? It's difficult to identify some materials from photos.

I'm thinking quartz rather than Jasper. I see no smooth conchoidal spots like might be expected in jasper, but I do see what looks like crystal formations all over all of the broken surfaces, and perhaps on the outside of the unbroken piece. Is it hard (can you scratch with a metal knife?). Calcite would be soft enough to scratch. Quartz would be hard and cause the knife to leave a shiney streak on the stone. Just quessing. Tom

My gut says calcite. Does acids make it bubble?
