How do you align the blocks in the vise so that you get good slabs right down to the wood? I glue pieces that have a cut on them to one that was just cut and still in the vise. I use a piece of cardboard and superglue, never had one come loose. Just wondering.

I'm still new to this. I have the block extending out past the vise and will try to make the last cut about slab thickness from the wood. I'm using Sodium Silicate as an adhesive for the first time. It is suppose to dissolve relatively quickly in water. I used wood glue before and couldn't get it off by soaking for a long time. I ended up popping off the glued slice with a chisel. My biggest concern is not having anything come loose from the board when I'm making my cuts.

I glue to the end of the 2x4 instead of the side and leave it long enough that it will be square in the vice. Most vices are very close to 90 degrees and the last slab will be very close to parallel.
