1dave, those guys are funny, and good! Especially around six minutes in where they really start mixing it up. But I can't hear that song without thinking of the movie, "The Music Man," where the Buffalo Bills (Barbershop Quartet, not football team) sing Lida Rose. As an added bonus, the second half the song they sing a duet? round? with Shirley Jones singing "Sweet and Low." Excellent!
Used to be big on the old musicals. They just don't make 'em like that anymore! The Music Man was released in June 1962... No way am I remembering all those songs from when I was five years old. Must have seen it numerous times in the ensuing years.
Another favorite is "The Wells Fargo Wagon" from the same movie. That song going through my head today, especially appropriate as I wait for the mailman to deliver MY Hans Gamma book. An attempt was made yesterday, but I wasn't home, and the mailman chose not to leave it (good call!). A very young Ron Howard appears at 2:38, he is now 61! (My, how the time flies!)
My parents tried to introduce us to culture - music, plays, etc. - when we were pretty young. I remember seeing a production of "My Fair Lady" in San Diego when I was not even four years old. A little young, maybe, lol. Grandma bought tickets for us to see it.
"The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain." HA! I guess it worked, I got culture! I think I like the musicals (movies) better than the plays, though.
ETA - O-ho the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street, Oh please let it be for me! O-ho the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin' down the street, I wish, I wish I knew what it could be!
Waiting on UPS for a tool to be delivered today as well, yippee!!
E - Again - TA - Learn the lyrics, you can sing it as well while you are waiting for your rocks/rocks grinding equipment/books to be delivered. Think about it: At least we normally get notification when something we purchased ships (and can then start anticipating!), and usually a tracking number. Back in the day, they had to wait patiently for sometimes months for something to arrive. Would y'all have the patience to wait for your rocks? Packages by Wells Fargo wagon, mail by Pony Express. And ya think that USPS is slow...

Yes, I remember the Fugs. Found something kind of family acceptable...
and something live that was marginally acceptable...

yep Ed Sanders of the Fugs poet, pentagon exorcist, detective work on 'the Family' a social critic to the max! o yeah the Fugs were named after Mailer novel "The Naked & the Dead" Mailer substituted the word 'fug' in the novel for the more popular four letter word which he took a lot ribbing for one heck of a WW2 novel written in 1948...
