Is there a rock out there that is a real red and not an orangy or brown red? I have seen only a few. One was a Mary Ellen and one was something from AZ, I think. I totally want some really red rock.

Red jasper ETA: can it have any pattern to it or just solid red? I love red jasper, but it trends to orange red. I am looking for solid red but a strong pattern with real red would be ok.

I do seem to remember one red jasper that I had that was striped with black (not metal) and was a dark red with no brown or orange. I don't know the location, though. Do you know of any specific locations?

This one was from Gemfield Nevada More from Gemfield I have also found red jaspers just outside of Las Vegas near the Lake Mead recreational area, up in Lund Nevada, Afton Canyon area of California and out by Ludlow California.

Thank you, vegasjames, those are really nice and look really red, especially the first. The second is a little orange, but I do see some nice reds there. I'll have to keep my eye out for some NV red jasper.

banded Iron can sometimes be found with wider bands, and the red can be similar color to the reds in MEJ... I can probably put you in touch with somebody who can give you a choice of MEJ if you'd like. PM me if so!

I'll have to keep my eye out for some NV red jasper. The pile in the second photo runs from a salmon color to blood red. I don't get up that way very often though and I rarely collect reds unless banded or some other pattern in them. I'll keep my eye out though when head back out because I do run across reds a lot. Had a nice piece of blood red the other day, but gave it to someone who makes Indian jewelry and wants reds for red coral replacement.

Like these? I have a lot of this stuff and make large slabs.. I have darker stuff someplace if this i not dark enough.. however the Arizona stuff is cheaper than Alaskan stuff as its easier to get.
