All of these slabs are cut from material bought from Mel.this stuff is absolutely stunning, and harder then hell.if you don't have any of this you need to jump on it.the possibilities in this material is endless.i can honestly say I have not cut a dud yet!!!!although some may not be as impressive as others they all impress. Once again thanks Mel. Probably get another LFRB next week

These are great! Are you going to cab these or just polish? Thanks for posting the photos. Those Rio's are fun. Similar to coconut geodes in that you never really know what you're going to get.

Beautiful Rios! That 2nd pic in post 3 has a lot going on. Love all that moss.
How are you clamping them in your vise? You cutting them long ways or across?
I've got some of these and can cut then cross wise quite easily, but I'd like to cut the long way for bigger slabs but worry about them slipping out of the vise.

Wow Dave, thanks for posting all those pics. I really like the #3 and #5 slabs but all are really pretty. Great to see the insides of what I sell as I'm always curious....Mel

I clamp my Rio's like I do my thundereggs...With 1x4's cut down to four and five inches in length,Put the wood against the vise(one on each side) and one piece of wood on the back and set the rock in between it all, suck it together with the vise.... Works every time! Thumbs up... When it gets to be to close with cutting, I take the rock out and glue it to my 2x4's for extreme cutting..

Would you please post a picture of what you are talking about next time you get around to cutting an oblong Rio Mike?

I just cut them in my 24".the clamp is massive,so the addition of odd shaped shims is a cinch.

So you are just cutting them crosswise and not lengthwise?

I usually cut them along the skinny plane on either side.if I cut a few and it doesn't look good I turn the rock and roll the dice again
