Hey all. This is my first post and was inspired to sign up after a recent find on a Scottish beach. Iv always been mad on rocks since I was a kid and have a decent collection on the go, but I was at the beach with my kids a couple of months ago, and as usual my son and I go rick hunting. Poking out of the sea weed was a round looking rock with some stunning stuff on some parts of it. It was mainly a 9lb chunk of basalt (I think) but I had to bring it home and see what I could do with it. I didn't know it was an agate before taking to it with a hammer and chisel (I'm very inexperienced btw) but after knocking of the basalt I'm left with a large chunk at 4lbs and lots of nice chunks to go with it, most of which I'd like to see cut and polished soon. The lapidary club in Edinburgh have offered to cut the big one but I have a question. Because of the way it's ended up, it actualy has 6 exposed sides to it. Would it be possible to cut across all 6 faces rather than through the middle. Anyway thanks for checking. Il be sure to post up my other finds later Hope these images show ok? It's hard to see the 6 sides I mean but it's 2 on one side, the face then 3 on the other

Hi mate. Thanks you are quite close. It was found in broughty ferry in amongst the sea weed. I'm still trying to work out exactly where it may have came from as I know there is a lot of exposed volcanic rock on the beach. I'm trying to imagine it's story as to how it ended up where it did.
Yeah it was scott from the Scottish minerals and lapidary club. I noticed the opening times on one of your other posts and will head down soon to see if I can get this thing cut. I'm unsure what is and what isn't possible so it should be interesting.
I stay in dundee myself mate. I plan on going back to the ferry at some point to see if I can beat 4lbs. I somehow doubt it but if that thing managed to surface on the beach I'd imagine there must be more. Lots of veins in the rocks but nothing like this random chunk lol
