I work in a high school. Our children with special needs have shown a great intrest in my rocks. Does anyone have any thoughts on lesson plans or work sheets or hands on activities or games I could share with them.

How about gluing rocks together to make little rock people and animals then you can glue those rolly eyes on them.

Just using rocks as you would building blocks might give satisfaction. I find little sculptures of dry stacked rock all over the shores of Huron when i go prowling, some are figures of people, some are just towers (like trail marker cairns) Yesterday when i was out i found rocks arranged in a big X and a space in the center. I suspect it might be a geocache. (x marks the spot). People write their names in pebbles on the sand... some of the projects will probably depend on the ablity of the individual. I have seen some pretty rock murals made using a sheet of craft wood and gluing pebbles to it to create an image or write a name or message. . The finished product can be framed if care is taken not to put rocks too close to the edge of the board. Covering a switch plate or picture frame with pebbles or polished rocks could be fun.
