Nice day out hounding after cold rain .
A little chilly up higher, digging in old creek bed.
Found this beauty piece of blood red jasper.
Can't wait to cut this one up. Thanks for looking......................Gary

Lookee looked Tela it's a very red jaspee! We have a member named Rock junkie that was wondering if anyone knew of truly red jasper. That's pretty red ehh?

If the pics are true to form, the color isn't iron. Could be Mercury. Use care when cutting.

Turns out this jasper does not like to be cut with oil. Spectgrath shows high manganese. What locals call "dirty" jasper, only small areas are hard rest is soft with metallic smearing. Lots of quartz inclusions and blebs. Did not polish well , lots of flat areas. I think the first photo is from the piece being in running water ? Is much darker after cutting ? from the hyd. oil I use ?, The other 1/2 I will cut using water and see if this makes any differance
