Intheswamp My husband needed a ceiling high enough so a car lift could lift cars up over his head while working on them. So I think 13 feet would have been enough but making it RV height would help resale in the future a long, long time from now. Andrea

The guys have left for the day. Here is my entrance and window. That's all folks....at least til Monday....have a good weekend. Andrea meviva Nice building! What brand of wafer board are they using on it. I worked as a Millwright Electrician at Blandin Wood Products making Blandex wafer board for almost 20 years. It is an interesting process to make wafer board. They always told us how safe the resins were that were used in the bonding process but a number of those I worked with passed on because of cancer. I hope it was just the mix of people that worked there and not because of the chemicals. Blandex no longer around, but I still have a bad back because of a work injury. As I think about it, it was a very dangerous place to work. Many of us would say, got out of here safe again, on the way to the parking lot.
Sitting here I am thinking I should not have commented on this thread because it is sure bringing up memories. My wife has said that the best thing that happened to me there was wrecking my back because at least I was out of there.
As I said very nice building........................................MrP

es355lucille Garage Rocker Thanks. Only a small portion of the garage is for my rock shop. I get the back 10'x25' section. Hopefully by the end of the month it will be done. MrP I hope it didn't bring back all bad memories. Georgia Pacific is the name stamped on the back of the boards. Andrea

meviva Not all bad memories. It was a good place to work just very dangerous, but I work for a power utility and that is dangerous also. Life is not safe but much better then the other option!
Thought maybe it would be Georgia Pacific as they are a very large producer. Blandix was the first to make a wafer board in large sheets, 8' X 28' and was the king of the industry for years. As processes were refined new producers with newer plants had the edge. We did build a new very advanced plant but by then the very large producers had a foothold in the market, also the plant was sold a few times to larger corporations who didn't really understand the industry. Being just a line item on a spreadsheet they never put back into the plant, just took out. A lt of good paying jobs lost when it was shut down..........................MrP

Today's update: They're here early to pound the dirt Then the giant rock tumbler showed up. Here is where we are at now. I wonder if they see me peeking out the blinds and taking pictures all day. I drive cement truck off and on in the summer for a friend. I noticed that you folks don't use re-bar in the footings or the slab. You must have zero ground movement there. Nice size shop. I would be getting some anti-fatigue mats for your room to save your feet. And dropped cabs from breaking.

I'm late to this thread. Too bad you can't keep that concrete slicer to cut your bigger rocks.
I always liked to get as much conduit in the slabs as possible. a lot shorter and better protected wiring. Be sure to get an outside plug or two by your shop. They ALWAYS come in handy.
Build wire cages and store most of your rocks outside. Think about a pavilion for outdoor work.
How about a storage attic?
Some dreams do come true!

Holey Moly!!!! I didn't know it would be so big! So, is that 2 stories or just a really high ceiling? What a really great workplace!

rockjunquie the whole thing is 1500sf with 16ft walls 18ft to the peak. My portion is 250sf. My ceiling will be 10 ft and there will be a 6-8 ft tall space above me for storage. The rest is for my husbands cars. Andrea

bushmanbilly There is rebar in the footing but not in the slab. The even added extra at the garage door.
