Not much new eye candy to look at. Is everyone busy with summer or just not feeling it? As for me, I haven't cabbed in about a month. I just ain't feeling it, for some reason.

After our Utah trip I just have not been able to muster any enthusiasm for finishing - plus it's just been too dang hot to spend a lot of time in an uncooled garage. I have mostly been doing modification projects on my work area - machines, etc. as well as on our trailer camper. My Etsy sales which have remained robust and steady all year dropped off to basically zero haha. I need to get my butt in gear and try to get it back going in September. I installed LED lighting on both machines - totally happy about this. Lighting has always been a struggle for me - I've had big bulky fixtures that always get in the way. I tried several LED solutions before going with this kit from Amazon. It's made a YUGE difference as The Donald would say. Also took a bunch of stuff apart and fixed three separate water leaks that have been driving me crazy and causing my anti-fatigue mats to get too slippery.

Great use of downtime, Tommy! I should be doing the same. I got another light for my genie. I need to splice the two lights together to fit one plug. Some maintenance wouldn't hurt, either. And, I desperately need to go through my slabs and do some organization.

Just trying to find that kick to get back on the lap. Slabbed up some dust collecting Washington jades and picked up a few agates this summer, a good start, other then that? just looking at all the pretty stones that are shown on RTH.

Man, my shop has been an inferno until today and even now, it's a friggin sauna. Also, our wrangler damaged her shoulder so I've been pulling trail ride duty three days a week until we were rained out yesterday. Will continue until at least Thanksgiving when she gets back. Been breaking in a new horse on top of that and the dang Covington saw's power feed overheats in summer anyway so not much rock stuff going on. Even too hot down south for the kids to be bringing in a lot of Rios for me to sell for them. Clayton called me to ask if I wanted to go rock hunt down there with him and I said " What are you trying to kill off an old geezer?" Shoot it's like 106 and 100% humidity down there at this time of year and skeeters as big as buzzards....Mel

I thought you'll had a dry heat out west Mel. Sounds like Florida humidity wise.

Not much going on in my part of Texas! My saws are in a tin covered shed, too hot to want to do cutting.I usually take a couple months off from rocks in July and August.Hasn't rained here in a month and a half,no yard mowing, just staying in the house along with the dogs keeping cool.

I've been running my Lortone LS18 for the past 4 months a minimum 12-14 hours a day and sometimes overnight, have packed up all the slabs in approximately 50- 60 USPS MFRB's in prep for a move coming up in February. I just got a Flickr account and eventually I'll be able to post photos.

Great lighting idea Tommy. I'm trying to figure out a way to adapt it to my Genie.
I was very ill with ultra-low energy for most of the past 3 years. My doctors couldn't seem to sort things out until I had a heart attack in January. That narrowed the diagnosis down quickly and I spent most of the first 3 months of this year in the hospital for heart surgery and a complex of other associated problems.
My shop became a totally cluttered mess in that 3-year period, so I'm spending my time now I'm recovered sorting, cleaning, organizing, fixing, recycling, junking etc. as August heat permits. Us SoCal coasties are somewhat spoiled weather-wise. The hot summers of 100++F. I recall from my earlier years in southern ID and UT would do me in now. We're nearing our warmest month, September, and recent temps have been in the 90s. That translates to oven-like temps in my garage/shop, so my activity's been limited to cooler mornings and the evenings when nice onshore sea breezes come visiting. Hopefully I'll get the shop stuff under control soon and will have some new goodies to show off.
I'm really frustrated because I'm nearly bursting with ideas and have slew of fine materials to work with but need to get some machine problems solved before I can touch stone to wheel. Hope everyone's having an enjoyable summer.

Hi Tela
Warm weather isn’t conducive to enthusiastic rocking!
I’m hoping that enthusiasm will return. A few more short weeks and the mornings cool off. I’m not sure though. I need a new setup. Things change after so many years at it.
Keep on Rocking!

No selling yet Captbob, I'm slabbing as much as possible now in preparation to focus on learning how to cab and wire wrap once I move to Citrus County in February. Eventually if I get good enough I'll sell at the local fairs. Oh and let's not forget; I love seeing what comes from slabbing a rock!!

Been teaching myself how to inlay, among other things. none of which involve fishing, unfortunately.
