Just pulled a fresh batch out of the Lot-O. 1. Up first is a bunch of random stuff I collected in Lake Superior. 2. Next up is some Flint Ridge Flint that spiceman sent me. This is really nice, colorful stuff. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Last is a very small batch of very small Lakers. I got these a few years ago at the Yooper Tourist Trap in Ishpeming, MI. I traded several large, but low quality pudding stones for a handful of agates. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. Three pictures of the last one because I found it myself. I don't tumble agates that I find, but I didn't realize this was an agate until I started tumbling it. It's not great, but I like it. 17. There's an eye and a big crack here. 18. Most of the rock is really plain. Almost all of the action is on this one little edge.

Of course I like those Lakers but this rock is really cool and steals the show for me. I am going to try really hard to get back to flint ridge this year. Chuck

Loving 4 and 6. Also like the lakers. We're actually going to swing by the Flint Ridge show this year as we head out for vacation. We'll be there Friday. Even more excited now that you've posted some of this material.

Ignorant Question Warning: What makes those small beauties Lakers but not these? My eyes aren't that keen sometimes and a few of yours seem to have the same banding as this one.

melhill1659, looks like some words in your question might have gotten auto corrected. It's not clear. Jugglerguy, they all look great, but I am really impressed with the flint. I had no idea it was so colorful. I'm assuming the hardness is 7 or so, since it was paired with the agate. Is that so? That's beautiful stuff. Gotta add it to my list of stuff to get. Thanks for posting. Dave

Sweet batch, Rob. Hard to argue with a batch of lakers and that pretty Flint Ridge material. I really like the self collected stuff too, especially the big one in the middle. I've had Flint Ridge come out in my last few batches and I'm really liking it. Probably head to the show up there and pick up some more this year.

Garage Rocker, if you have extra room in your bags, and you don't mind the hassle of shipping, I'd love to get my hands on some. Regards. Dave

Great job. I think the Flint Ridge is my fave, maybe just because you don't see colorful Flint Ridge tumbles as often as Lakers.
Melhill, while yours could maybe pass for Lakers, they don't seem as translucent as normal Lakers, and they don't seem to have the white bands that are so characteristic in many Lakers. But I could be convinced they are Lakers.

Beautiful shiny tumbles you have there. Looks like a lot of time invested. I love the flint ridge material. All look great.

melhill1659, I'm not an agate expert, but yours look very similar to Lakers. Maybe the color isn't quite right. Where did you get them? What were you told they were?

Then they could be lakers. Lakers formed from volcanic activity over a billion years ago, probably in what is now southern Canada. Those volcanic deposits gradually weathered and released the agates. Glaciations, including the strong glaciation about 15,000 years ago, spread many of the lakers across the northern states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan, as well as around Thunder Bay, Ontario. Wikipedia notes that "Lake Superior agates have been found in gravel deposits along the Mississippi River basin." I'm not super familiar with drainage patterns in that part of North America, but I think the glaciers could have pushed some of the agates into the northern reaches of the Mississippi drainage basin, where they could be carried south over time. Since the path of the Mississippi river has changed over time, your tributary could be where the main Miss. channel once was, which could be why you find them in a tributary of the Mississippi. So polish them up and make them shine like Jugglerguy's!!

Rob, you did a great job with that flint. That looks amazing. Good job I do better passing the flint to someone that knows tumbling, because I'm learning. Your flint looks every bit as good as the lakers. But Ohio doesn't have lakers. :) And I think flint ridge is only 9 miles by 2 miles.
And I live about 2hours from flint ridge but the flint in this area is solid colors: red, yellow, brown..... No blue I have learned that blue flint brings in the top dollar.
