I'm looking into getting a vibe tumbler for small loads, 10lbs or less and am considering the Viking VT-12 with 2 3lb hoppers looks like a industrial unit made for lifetime use and the Thumlers UV-10 which of course is a lot less and also lesser of build quality. Can users of each chime in with advantages or dis-advantages of each? I don't mind spending the extra for a quality unit if it yields better results. Thanks in advance. Mike

Any reason you're not also considering a Lot-O? Single barrel costs $182. Double goes for $255. You could buy a bunch of those for the cost of that VT-12. Is this something you're planning on using for a lifetime?

Dave: Yes, I'm in it for the long haul. My friend had a Lot'o several years back and although it gave a nice finish he kept breaking the straps that hold it down to the board and also had trouble with the mounting screws staying tight to the particle board. Other than those problems he did get a very shiny appearance.

The viking unit is an excellent choice, giving nice results. If you don't mind the price tag, or can find a used one I highly recommend them. Best part is it doesn't have to be strapped down to a pallet full of cynder blocks to keep it from walking down the street. I have no experience with the thumlers uv 10. I use thumlers barrels on a contempo rotary, and finish in the viking. Good luck in your search

The Lot-O is hard to beat. Tested and proven on softer rocks. RTH members get some wicked polishes w/that machine and seem to have reliability. I have a $1500 Viking 14 and cannot slow it or tune it to do soft rocks. Kills it on Mohs 7 though. Different model than that you mentioned albeit.

I haven't used the two you are looking at, but I love my Lot-O. I've had no problems with it.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm still on the fence about which way to go. Any UV-10 users that can chime in would help narrow it down. Thanks

I bought a used one last year that was only used one time . I wanted another bigger vibe to go along with my GY ROC A . Then I saw another GY ROC for sale and I got that so I never used the UV10 . From what I have read on here , it was always a toss up between the Lot o and UV10 . Big difference being capacity . If you are interested in a used UV10 , send me a PM

What I paid and shipping is all I want to get out of it . funny thing the amazon 1 says its not a rock tumbler right in the add but right below it where it says frequently bought together items, the uv18 the rock grit kit and plastic beads must be everyone ignores the not a rock tumbler warning. thumblers website shows a hobbyist and an industrial version. I'm gonna have to say the industrial is out of my price range at this time.

The one I have is the UV 10 Industrial , same one as Amazon has for $ 308 . And if you get a vibe , you don't use plastic beads in them .
