Call this the JIFy barrel.
Had about 8 slabs to polish and thought I'd see how it works.

I'll tell ya I haven't got a clue. First time trying this. Bets it lasts until I get the next peanut butter jar in the pantry emptied? Like I said I had a stack of slabs of picture jasper and didn't feel like making up 3 or 4 3# barrels. The jar was there on the shelf and the shape and size looked right. So what the heck? I stacked in a bunch of slabs in the 2 1/2" w by 3" high range and let 'er rip. Right now I'm only rolling it while I'm around. Another day or so without any issues and I'll let it run 24/7. Pics below are saw cut and dry. Not as cool looking as they were oiled from the saw which is why I decided to roll 'em before figuring where to cut cabs, if I decide to cut cabs. More pics when they're finished.

UPDATE: OK, so after watching this JIFy barrel a couple hours I noticed a few things. First there's a dent in the shoulder on this particular jar. Causes some significant bouncing each time the dent hits the rollers. You can see it in the first vid, watch the lid side. Because the jar is a smaller diameter it rotates too fast for my taste, ~ 53 RPM. And it sits very low in between the rollers and I can easily see it jammed in there. So 1 fix for all 3! I made some belts from a stiff foam and glued them (I love rubber cement! ) to the jar. As you can see now the jar doesn't bounce near as much as it did, it turns a bit slower, ~ 42 RPM, and it ain't sitting down between the rollers anymore. I just love tinkering with things.

I'm curious as to how well the foam will hold up - this is interesting!

Had a bit of a bobble yesterday. Left the JIFy on the machine and went to work. Came home and things were a bit off kilter.
The belt nearest the lid had stretched, worn, or something to make it larger than the jar and it was cock-eyed on the jar. Still rolling but awful funny looking.
Nearest thing I can figure is the rubber cement did not stick to the electrical tape I used on my first attempt to bridge the dent in the shoulder. That belt was a bit large to begin with and I guess it just came loose and ended up getting too big to fit snug to the jar.
Peeled off the black tape and made up a new belt. Looks like the rubber cement is sticking to the jar now. The other belt hasn't budged.
Seems to be rolling OK this evening.
Time will tell.............

5 gallon bucket ain't no big deal. Already thought that one through.
Thing is I'm looking to come up with smaller stuff. I do a lot of little runs with only a few pieces of interest. My 1 1/2 # barrel gets the most work.
Dog gone JIFy did it again, stretched the belt and slipped. Thinking now that it's the dent in the shoulder causing the trouble. The belt stretches a small amount every time that dent goes over a roller and breaks down the glue holding the belt in place and then things go downhill from there.
Have put in another fix. If this one don't work I'll table the idea until next time I come up with a bunch of slabs to run. I will make sure though that next time I start with a good jar.
