I won this little piece of whatever it is on ebay for cheap. Their picture- this is the totality of what I cut the cab from. Question 1 - Is this OJ? If not, then what? Question 2 - The stone looks cracked, but isn't. I cabbed around obvious cracks. You can't feel any crack with your fingernail and as evidenced by the pictures, you can't see a crack on either surface. So, would you sell this? Question 3, - Judging by the pictures, would you say that the line inside the stone is probably more of the white stuff? That's what I am thinking. I think this is soooo pretty and it's such a shame that it looks cracked. I probably won't sell it, but I am curious to hear opinions. Just to be clear- I'm not talking about the obvious white line, rather the line in the stone. IMG 0001: IMG 0002: IMG 0003: IMG 0004: IMG 0006:

I'd describe it as you have here. It seems to have a crack which was present before the stone was cabbed. It seems tight. Although it is visible when back lit it is less obvious on the back meaning its not through the entire mass of the cab. Price it accordingly (at least 25% of what it normally would be and if possible sell it in person so the buyer can examine for their own satisfaction). If that's not within your realm of normal selling, I'd save it and give it to a friend as a special gift. Can you hum "I got these lines in my face, trying to straighten out the wrinkles in my life"? The world is not perfect but it is often beautiful. I like the stone {orbicular whatever you decide to call it).

Try the "pin test." Run a sharp pin across the line to see if it indicates a real fracture. It's hard to tell from your images whether it's another smaller white line or a real fracture.
Looks like OJ to me but there are lots of different orbicular jaspers. I think a lot of ID's without actual provenance are often wrong.

Thanks, Rick. I gave it the pin test and it passed. I always use my fingernail. I can see the pin test is better.

Barely perceptible at this magnification and as Fossilman says it's healed anyway. A product of perfectionism ... a non-issue imho.
