I bought this cab. All it said was Tonopah Turquoise. Lots of mines there. Any guesses? It's pretty stuff and very hard. I do not believe this has been stabilized. The darker blue color in this is actually a little more bright and intense. --Thnks! orrum Maybe you know?

Tonopah is Nye County.
The only recently active turquoise mine I can think of is Royston, which is actually a conglomeration of 4 mining claims previously owned by other mines. The Tiffany mine is close by as well, but that has been inactive for a long time.

That doesn't mean this is Royston turquoise, does it?

Royton turquoise varies a lot. But here is a similar example:

I helped a friend sell a lot of turquoise and he always referred to it as Tonopah, but something in my fogged brain reminded me of confusion with variscite in Tonopah material. Your cab looks too blue to be variscite or could it be?

Your cab looks too blue to be variscite or could it be? I don't think it is variscite- the blue doesn't even have much green tint to it. It seems much harder than most variscite, too. It was sold as turquoise and I trust the seller that it is. I have bought a lot of cabs from him over the years and he has never failed me. I just have never heard of Tonopah Turquoise, but I'm not overly familiar with turquoise, either.

It's definitely turquoise but Royston varies as James said. I would hate to say because Royston can have a lot of different looks. Very nice swirly blue! I made a similar piece that the lovely Sussn wears a lot!
