Here is a picture of some tiger eye from Hewy that he collected from the Wittenoom area of Australia. Paul lives not far from a place called "The North Pole" which is where the oldest rocks in the world have been found. iavbbs.com/nichols/tiger eye.jpg[/img]

is this sometimes called tiger iron? i've seen pictures that look like this that are called tiger iron.

I think that they are varieties of banded iron. Particular mineral combinations give diferent color schemes that lend to different names. Similar to agate only agate normally occurs in nodules. (I think!)
