I thought they were pretty darn nice for the price! I haven't decided exactly what I am going to do with them. Thinking of using some from the third batch on a windchime I have plans in my head for. Never thought about pendants, but now I will! I got some diamond cutting wheels for my dremel and am thinking I will cut some interesting and weird shapes out of a couple of them. I'm not sure how to polish them though. Can I just put them in pre-polish then polish in the vibe with a bunch of pellets? They are all pretty thick, so I don't think I have to worry about pieces breaking off. Never had any slabs before, so learning how to do them will be a new thing. Another question. For those that I need to drill a hole in, should I drill the hole before I polish the or after?

Hey Llana, I agree with John. I do all of my drilling on the finished stone. I have some small diamond files that I use if I need to dress the hole. I have thought about drilling after pre-polish but I am concerned about any of the rock particles from the drilling making it into the polish. I also didn't know if the banging of a rotary was a good idea. If you have a vibe, you might try that, just be careful to clean them well first. When I mount a peg cup on a rock, the hole is covered and it doesn't matter. I'm setting up now to drill a bunch of beads. I plan to do them all after polish. Worst that could happen is I'd have to polish them again. I like the idea of the walking stick. I have to use canes and crutches all the time, so I've been working on carving a cane myself. If I end up with any emeralds large enough to see, maybe that's a good place to put some.

Quite a nice collection, do you have something to shine up the slabs?

Tami, that's one thing I have been trying to figure out - how I am going to polish them. I think I will probably put some of my least favorites in the vibrating tumbler with a bunch of pellets and see how they do. If they come out without getting broken and have a good shine, that's how I will do the others. If that doesn't work, I will try hand polishing them. My brother-in-law's dad has a whole shop of rock tumbling equipment. I'm not sure, but I think he has a lap polisher - is that what they are called? Anyway, if all else fails, I will see if he can do them. I WILL get them polished one way or another!

Yes I believe that is what they are called, my metalsmithing teacher not only used his for rocks but also metal. I used it many a times to do the first polish on my metal pieces I did.
