I have lost the name of this. I did have some luna agate. I'm wondering if this is it. It has a purple tone to it. inside

Yep, Luna Agate from Mexico as opposed to Luna Agate from Luna, New Mexico. Confusing common names, no? The NM stuff tends too just be plain ole blue to gray to white banded and fortification type nodules....Mel

It was NM where I went. BTW, after the fire, it seems that the agate must have been real easy to clean out because I hade a heck of a time finding it where there were supposed to be 100 pound boulders.

Yep Mark, I hunted New Mexico too and that was disappointing many years ago. Thought the agate was kind of blah too. of course, after Deming Big Diggins and Baker Rch in the old days, most New Mexico sites were blah. I wished I could just build a house and live at Baker Rch..Mel

About 34 years ago I worked 4 months doing construction support at a Power Plant near Springerville Arizona. On weekends I would drive south into the White Mountains and across the state line into New Mexico to look for agate. Lucked out one weekend and found an area that had been rough plowed by the Forest Service and it was right after some decent rains. The Luna Blue nodules were scattered everywhere in the deeply plowed earth. In two weekends I gathered about 400 pounds. I have only cut about 5 or 6 of the nodules, just started cutting a few of them a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately most of the very large ones have a fracture of two. I did manage to find a few that had hollow centers. The best one(no picture!) I cut and polished and gave to my boss at the construction site when he came back to the Houston office, it was very dark blue.
