Well, I do believe this is the first time I have posted in this section on RTH. I finally broke out my little vibe tumbler I bought years ago because I was going to use it to tumble polish my jewelry which hasn't happened yet...lol. At any rate, I decided to try to polish a few sunstones that I collected a few years ago up in the Plush, Oregon free collection area. I had a blast collecting them but picked up a lot more small pieces than actual workable sunstones. Despite my inexperience I think I did a pretty good job on them. I have another batch in the tumbler now. I think I'm hooked now...LOL. Here's the batch before I started The same batch after a round of 400 grit and then a round of 600 grit (I used ceramic pieces as filler) And last but not least, the batch after AO polish They won't win any prizes for tumbling but they are fun to run my fingers through and sparkle in the sun so I'm happy.

They won a prize in my book. Great tumble of a soft rock, an accomplishment.

Sunstone is one that is not posted much in this section. I really like them and self collected to boot. You will fit right in here in the tumbling section.

Yeah, I often wondered why sunstones weren't posted here often but figured the ones most people collect are from the mines and are more facet grade. These were mostly small ones I picked up off the ground around camp. I asked several people about tumbling them but got conflicting answers with not much information about how to do it. I basically just winged it and fortunately for me it worked out. The key I think was starting at 400 grit instead of 60/90 because that probably would have made tiny sunstones into microscopic sunstones since they are so soft.

That's one of the great things about this forum. The masters don't mind teaching their tips and techniques to those of us that aren't masters yet. BTW, those stones look great.
