First, sorry for the delay, I have been doing some remodeling at home.
2nd, both of the the cabs are beautiful!
I judged them as follows: (Cut from another page)
Point Formula:
80-85 points maximum will be awarded. Below is the point formula for evaluating the cabochon.
SANDING/GRINDING 25 POINTS
I will inspect for flats, micro bevels, scratches, undercutting, excessive pitting, fracturing (a shallow hairline in difficult material is fine, but don't turn in an obviously fractured cab), etc
POLISH 30 POINTS
I will inspect the quality of the final polish with respect to the polish capable of the material ex: an agate should have a liquid finish, a jade should not have orange peel
SYMMETRY FOR TRADITIONAL CABS 25 POINTS (That is- a cab which can be equally divided into 2)
Dome, Outline, Curvature, Symmetry, Evenness of the Girdle (where there is one)
OR
EXECUTION FOR FREEFORM CABS 25 POINTS
Dome, Outline, Curvature, Evenness of the girdle (where there is one)
An additional 5 points may be added as a degree of
difficulty factor or for a truly outstanding stone. (purely subjective- for that eye popping, perfect cab)
The backs need not be polished unless it is a transparent stone, a back bevel or chamfer may or may not be used.
For a perfect score in each category you get all of the possible points. You may have a deduction from the highest possible score in each category by having one or another done in a less than satisfactory manner. ex: for sanding- you left a micro bevel on the face or scratches in the girdle- you will have points deducted depending on how bad it was.

After a thorough examination, I have determined that the Apache Gold is the better cab.
SANDING/GRINDING 25 POINTS Moroccan seam agate 20; Apache Gold 20. The first had some scratches, the second had some visible to the naked eye micro fractures. So, 5 points were taken off each.
POLISH 30 POINTS Moroccan seam agate 20; Apache gold 20. Both have nice, even polishes.
SYMMETRY FOR TRADITIONAL CABS 25 POINTS Here is where the big difference is. The Moroccan seam agate had a lot of problems in the girdle line, including a very marked thinning at the bottom tip. I gave it 10 points because it was distracting from the overall quality and the tip causes concern for setting. The Apache gold had few issues but did have a little bump in the outline, so I gave it 20.
Moroccan seam agate 50; Apache Gold 60.

This is our first winner take all, so there was bound to be a problem and there is.
The community has voted and determined that the Moroccan seam agate was the winner based on the visual appeal and preform. Now, what do I award for the winner of the community choice? I looked and I can't see where we determined that. I think the most fair thing to do, at is point, is to award the total points for the community choice. In the future, I will award 25 points for the community winner. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/82503/2018-winner-cabochon-contest-public
So, the Moroccan seam agate has 20 votes and the Apache gold has 11. The totals are- 70 for the Moroccan and 71 for the Apache.
