Deciding on my wheel setup and saw some 6" x 2 1/2" wide Diamond wheels ( 80 and 220) from Jade Carver. I like the idea of the wider wheel but wanted to see if any of you Rock Star Cabbers have used and/or have an opinion on them. Thanks

Haven’t been doing much grinding lately So others may have a more informed opinion
My question would be cost? Bang for the buck Seems like a wider wheel would cost more
1 1/4 inch wide is standard lapidary, I believe; and best I know, is fine for most lapidary cab/s pendants
so if your getting the extra wide diamond wheel for a rock bottom bargain rock on!
The other concern would be if you wanted to have wheels side by side on the arbor. Extra width would take up arbor space preventing other wheels. That not a problem.
On my Lortone arbor I would just trade out wheels as needed Used the other side of the arbor for an rubber expando sander. Which is 2 1/2 inches wide and economical.
Good luck on your project!

A wider wheel would be no advantage cutting cabs since you are working a curved surface 99.9% of the time—only a small area is in contact with the wheel—and you should try to work back and forth across the face of the wheel to equalize wear.
Stick with standard 1 ½” wheels.

Just last night I was sanding some larger cabs on my 3" wide expandos. I was thinking how nice it is to have such wide wheels. It's a lot more comfortable to have wide wheels. Go for it! Lynn

I took a look at their wheels. There are two reason for using wider wheels; cost savings and being able to work on a larger cab. The wider wheels are 40% wider, so in theory 40% more wear. The cost is more than 40% more. That would stop me right there.
The next issue is that they are both steel core wheels and the wider would obviously be heavier.
My machine was very inexpensive with two 8 inch wheels. When I was cabbing for a while I bought a Genie so I could be all diamond One day I decided to replace the worn hard wheels on my stardiamond and bought 3 soft wheels. The hard wheels are 1.5 and the soft wheels are 2 inches as opposed to the 1.5 for the 6 inch Genie. I'm impatient and the 8 inch wheels are much faster. I use my Genie for the trim saw attachment, the polishing wheels and canvas pad. I have bought both the steel core and plastic core wheels from Jadecarver and I have been pleased with the plastic core and they are cheaper.
