Much of the Triassic rocks are buried in western Utah, and some have been washed away in eastern Utah, but quite a few areas are exposed for our enjoyment.

In April of 1993 Phil and I headed back to the Escalante. It’s funny how during some years by April the trees are leafed out and cactus are blooming. This year we hit it just after winter was over and enjoyed the first warm weather of the season.

One of the few flowers blooming was the Golden Mariposa Sego Lily. You can see it in the picture below blooming in and around the large amounts of Petrified Wood.

The dark rocks are petrified wood. Some are tree size in length

Phil in Little Death Hollow. Imagine the water it took to deposit this log!
