Sliding in under the wire... Little change from the original plan - this is a piece of Trinidad jasper from Northern California. The story goes that the material was found during a freeway project and there was just a very short time where a handful of people were allowed to take material out before the road crew covered it over. One of the persons who was involved in that gave a chunk to my friend and my friend gave me a slab of it. Do you see it yet? Wow! That is some unusual Trinidad jasper. I have a nice piece in classic browns and tans, shot through with black and white. I collected it out of the creek, just up from the beach. I haven't been able to bring myself to cut it yet. Our shop steward had a slab from the road project. He claimed to sleep with it under his pillow.
Anyway... gorgeous cab, with 8.5 hours to spare.

Thanks! According to the sources source (legend?) this piece of this variation was from the original Hwy 101 build project location circa the early sixties. He apparently had a buddy who was on the road crew and when they hit this material he called his friend and said get your ass over here you've got a few days to grab as much as you can before the grader comes through. I guess he hoarded it for many years until he realized that he wasn't going to take it with him. I have also seen the plainer brown material from down the hill towards the water.

It's about the size of a noggin. I want to cut it, but I also don't. At the moment, I have no saw access, so I guess it's a moot point.
