I just went over to the shop to take a peek at what the cookers are preparing and snapped some close up pictures of a few, here they are, No narrative just visuals. Cheers, johnw
I am not sure if the pink on the right hand side, in the image above, is a slice ham or a piece of water mellon? I had to ask them what they intended to do with this one, since it was almost finished, having plums, dates and filling ready for the final touches. I was told layers of crushed gooseberries will be added to the scooped out portion....... yummy. Cheers, johnw

The last one is making me drool. The gooseberries will be a delicious addition. Which variety are they using? Green, Red or Maroon? Each would impart a different flavor. I also might be seeing some layers of vanilla laced cream cheese, or is it whipping cream?

I also might be seeing some layers of vanilla laced cream cheese, or is it whipping cream? Hello, thank you fernwood, it does look delicious. As a kid in the UK, I only knew green gooseberries, but I am informed by the cookers they will add red gooseberries to compliment the overall effect. I do believe what you are seeing is whipped "clotted cream" flown in special from Devon, UK, commonly used on scones with strawberry jam at tea time in the UK. The cookers wanted to keep it on the sweet side so they did not use vanilla laced cream cheese, but they like the idea for another confection they were planning. They infused vanilla laced cream cheese into this pastry sample and wanted your opinion. What do you think? Cheers, johnw

Shop’s open…… following up on my visit yesterday and seeing what the cookers were doing, I asked them to prepare a special "Holiday Extravaganza" unlike they had ever done before. I asked for a confection that was loaded with fruitcake, spiked with rum, with the addition of blackberries, red currants, hazel nuts, white truffles, dates, mango and a profusion of multi-colored layers of striping of toffee and strawberry and banana paste, studded with macadamia nuts and covered with a hard icing sugar infused shredded coconut top. We call this our Big Rock Candy Mountain. The weight of this magnificent piece is 15 pounds and it measures 8.5”x 8.5”x 7.5” Feast your eyes. Uh-oh, it looks like the black berries are trying to escape. The cookers told me one word describes this special confection, being: Awesome. Cheers, johnw

A lot of nice specimens there, er, I mean dessert. What about a rummy Christmas fruitcake? Anyone got one? I've been whining for two weeks for fruitcake and wife bought the ingredients and told me to get cooking! I'll do it too!

It's got all natural ingredients, plums, macadamia nuts, glazed fruit pieces, cherries, berries and some suet and is covered in icing sugar with some glazed orange peel. They used 80 proof rum, just a tad, to spice things up. Here you go..... Weight is 4 pounds, measures 6"x5"x4.5" Oh yeah, and just in case you didn't know, it's a rock.... Cheers, johnw

Shop's open just in time for the Holidays. We got plum puddings, and lots of goodies with berries of every type and size, use a lot's of vanilla, and custard, icing sugar, marzipan and toffee and we even have a rum baba special and a chocolate covered delight. Too many to choose from anyway here they are for your visual pleasure. Warning this is picture heavy so it will take time to load up. Cheers, johnw This is a chocolate covered square, carefull some of the chocolate is starting to melt. It covers vanilla and nougat layers. angel cake, white infusion over a crushed nuts, overlaying dark chocolate and fruitcake base. Weight:1#-10oz dims:3"x3.5"x3" Material, err, yep, you guessed it: Laguna Crazy Lace. Chocolate slice, dark chocolate covering a marmalade confection with chocolate chips infused all layered over a confection of toffee striping red currant puree and crushed wallnuts and macadamias Weight:1# 14oz. dims:6"x4"x3.5" Base is walnuts and cherry's covered with with grapes, a mixture of angel cake and marmalade, whipped cream, toffee stripes and covered with a puree of Black Berries. Here is a nice slice of custard nut and toffee covered with chocolate chips and small plums infused with icing sugar. Weight: 1#-10oz. dims 6"x4"x1.5" Custard Bun, a combination of crushed nuts, coconut shreds, cream and custard with a strawberry and icing topping Weight: 1# dims 5"x3"x3" This is one of Big Crazy's specials: Berries and Vanilla Cream over strawberry and crushed hazelnuts Weight:: 1# 6pz. dims: 4"x2.5" x2.5" Big Crazy's had a special visitor who stated the following after eating this spiced confection: The first offering for me is wonderful combinations that tantalized all of the senses. The blend of the cherries, currants and blackberries created an overwhelming smell that invited the taste buds to take action. Upon engagement the taste buds were not disappointed. They all agreed that this is a pastry to indulge in slowly, to fully appreciate the intricate blend of flavors. They also appreciated the delicate blend of nutmeg and paprika in the cake layers was a wonderful surprise. This blended layer can be seen in the photo. The addition of paprika to a berry pastry is an art, which must be carefully done to prevent overpowering the other flavors. There may also be a hint of powdered peppers. Maybe a smoked variety, as there was a hint of smokiness. This added to the overall appeal. Will be recommending The Big Crazy's Pastry Shop to all my friends who appreciate the finer things in life. Weight: 6#-4oz dims: 9"x5.5"x2.5" These are now ready in the customer viewing case over at Big Crazy's Pastry Shop
A confection of red berries, black berries, plum slices, layered on nougat, custard , strawberry puree overlaying coconut shreds covering a boiled grape Weight: 1#-4oz dims 4"x3"x4" A slice of cream cheese pie covered with saffron, plums and stewed rhubarb Weight 2# dims. 5"x4"x3" Here we have shreded coconut , layered with raspberry sauce covered with a crust of crushed damsons, topped with icing sugar. This is a custom preparation and has most everything. Lets start in the middle. a large rum baba, traditionally made with yeast and eggs, soaked in rum and apricot brandy and it's covered with a two inch layer of marzipan. Surrounding that, is a thick layer of traditional fruit cake surrounded with layers of a soft caramel coating laced with candied lime peel and infused with random nuts, with a plum outburst and strands of ginger laces. Weight: 9# 6oz dims; 7.5"x6"x6" This is called a mixed fritter. Berries and nuts, small kumquats, apple slices and layers of strawberry sauce over vanilla and gingerbread crust. Cookers are back and the Shop is open for business. Here is what they have on offer but, like yesterday it will take a while to upload. The cookers threw a curveball at us in that they developed a "savory desert." This confection has potatoes, carrots, ground beef and spices in a thick pastry shell covered with a Bisto and Truffle heavy sauce. Weight: 1#-5oz dims 4"x4"x3" Now they are back on track with a crushed rhubarb square covered with a layer of red currants, nuts and a thick icing sugar. Weight: 10 oz. dims 4"x4"x1" This is a rather large slice of a pie that has dates, nuts, red berry sauce, marzipan and toffee stripes baby kumquats being all embedded in, now wait for this............Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Weight: 1#-3oz. dims.4.5"x3"x3.5" This is one of their special concoctions, it;s a composition of dates and fruit cake with a chocolate layer covered with mixed fruit trifle, layered with black treacle, topped with a rum baba and small berries drizzled over the top. It is infused with brandy and rum and is not for the faint of heart. Weight: 1#-8 oz. dims: 5"x3"x3" and finally, a big, really big, plum pudding enough to feed six, with left overs for tomorrow. This is infused with apricot brandy, fruit cake mix, wild elderberries, plum sauce, and covered with ground hazelnuts and hard icing. Weight 9#-10 oz dims 9"x5" 6" That's it folks, thank you for watching and have a.........., err, well, hang on a minute. It seems the Sentient Being Cookers want to show themselves to you so you can see who has been cooking these 65 million year old treats. Here they come: They want me to tell you they previously had a gig back in the 70's on The Martian Chronicles, just so there is no conflict. But all now work at The Big Crazy's Pastry Shop. The final cooker had an issue with its cloaking device and we can only get a face and head shot.... No body. Be forewarned its brain cavity is enormous. Face: Full head: We calls this Sentient: The Head Chef.......... TBC........... in the New Year............. Cheers, johnw Images and image variants are by Linda from West Cost Gems and myself.

Shop's open, for one day only being its New Year's Day. The cooker's over at The Big Crazy's Pastry Shop prepared an extra special treat for to-day. Here it is: Starting on top is a baked caramel custard topping, covering a layer of licorice and vanilla spread. This sits on top of a brandy infused layer of apricots, slivers of almonds and red currants over nougat and marzipan. Bottom is a thick crusted apple flan, covered in raspberry dribbling. Total Calorie count, well, you don't really want to know. Just Enjoy. Weight is 10 pounds measure 9.5"L x7.25"W x6" H The shop is now closed, but will re-open later in the spring when all ingredients are more abundant. Cheers, johnw
