Thanks for sharing, I've thoroughly enjoyed everything you've shared! Hi Mike, well, thank you for saying that, but you gotta know it ain't over until the fat lady sings. And talking of ladies, here's a heads up for you. I am taking images of my "All Female Orchestra crafted in Clay." This is a miniature presentation of Chinese ladies in traditional clothes, playing traditional Chinese instruments.` While it's out of the generally discussed mainstream RTH subjects, it does come under what I called the "Creations by any other means, are still Creations" thread and I believe it will be of interest to the membership who may have spouses that work in clay. It will make for an interesting observation of just what can be accomplished in clay that has been kiln fired, painted and then glazed. Cheers, johnw

I've mentioned this before but even though I have zero artistic ability I have great appreciation for those who do and enjoy seeing the work that they create.

Shops open, for one day only. The cookers who saw all the confetti yesterday wanted to have a go at creating something colorful to celebrate the RTH one-millionth post, so they cam up with this pastry. I tried to tell 'em we don't each such gaudy stuff, to which I was firmly put in my place when one of 'em said "Oh, what about St. Paddy's Day, mostly green stuff........ So I shut up. Here is what they want you to see. It weighs 5 ounces and measures 3"x3"x3". I was not told the ingredients and did not want to speculate. Cheers, johnw

Can see why ingredients in this one might be over the top. A beautiful creation.

Aggggghhhhhhhhhh, how can you mix crap with this wonderful creation. Particularly when the cookers tell me they sprinkled some "special icing sugar they created to look like diamonds" all over the pastry. The accolade is however very much appreciated by the cookers. Cheers, johnw

Can see why ingredients in this one might be over the top. A beautiful creation. This one strains my imagination to adequately describe what the ingredients may be with the exception of the special icing sugar made to look like diamonds. Wanna have a go? Anyone? Cheers, johnw

I see some blueberries, currants and black raspberries. Lemon, nutmeg and possibly mace or turmeric. Maybe some craisins and or raisins. Appear to be some heavy whipped cream layers. The pastry portions to be made with a lemon glaze mixed with appropriate ingredients to form flaky layers between the fruit fillings.
That's all I have tonight.

I wanna take a little slice off the end of that last one with my rock saw. Kinda like carving off a chunk of dessert while the wife isn't looking.

RWA3006, well, I am not quite sure how to tell you this but the cookers told me to tell you it's a special pastry and a prerequisite to looking at it is you suspend you belief system and see it as a pastry and not a rock. Err, well, so now I have explained to you the party line, which end were you interested in peeling off in a slice? We don't have to let the cookers or your wife know what we are doing and we can blame it on Fat Bubba from the Zoo. Cheers, johnw

Hmmm... I've never before contemplated slicing a pastry with my rock saw. I'd hate to soak it in saw oil, so guess I just better be content to gaze upon that beautiful pic. Thanks for sharing. I think that last one is my favorite of the whole group.

The cookers tell me they would be proud to name this confection after you, rwa3006, so how does that go exactly? ARRRWA3 006 or is there a name we can use? Cheers, johnw

I think I've gained a pound just reading this post! Thanks for sharing the beautiful pastries! taylor well, thank you for those compliments. It has been an interesting journey and I have enjoyed the narrative explaining what I thought was in the pastry's. That said, there's more to come in the spring. BTW, do you have a preference in pastry's? Maybe I can talk to the cookers over at Big Crazy's Pastry Shop to see if they can come up with something for you. Cheers, johnw

Wow, they're amazing! really nice and fascinating. They made me hungry looking at them... (but... if I'm honest... they're also just a LITTLE bit creepy, when I imagine what they'd to to my teeth if I tried to bite any...)

(but... if I'm honest... they're also just a LITTLE bit creepy, when I imagine what they'd to to my teeth if I tried to bite any...) The issue becomes do you have the ability to suspend your belief system and see just pastry's? That said this is what will happen if you try to bite into a pastry. My friend George tried and these are the results. Oh, and in order to appreciate George, you need visit 'what do you see in a stone" thread. All good stuff and part of the learning process. Cheers, johnw A better position to appreciate the damage. George tells me he will no longer try to bite the pastry's but just enjoy their visual pleasures. Cheers, johnw

Hoowee! So pretty, but how do you keep the fly's off? goatgrinder , I am really glad you asked that question. Well, it's like this, as you know The Big Crazy's Pastry Shop in on the Upper Main Concourse level at the Zoo. Now being "special" the residents at the Zoo do not attract flies of their own accord, but flies being curios creatures tend to check out the animals, er, sorry, residents and then move on cuz there are no droppings or smell. Given there is always a wonderful smell coming from The Big Crazy's Pastry Shop, flies do tend to gravitate to that area. So as a deterrent, Big Crazy and the Zoo Master entered into an agreement whereby Fat Bubba, the err, well, as far as I know, only gay employee at the Zoo and his Fantasy Pal, The Fly Eating Dragon roam the concourse looking for flies. It's quite a symbiotic relationship, Fat Bubba and the Dragon, but they do seem to be happy together and it works: there are no modern era flies in the Pastry Shop. Fat Bubba did find one, but it was 65 million years old and had gone thru petrification. Hopefully I have been able to answer you question. Cheers, johnw Here are some images of The Fly Eating Dragon and Fat Bubba.
This is Fat Bubba, he is thrilled to be here again and is showing us how well he can levitate. I gotta admit every time I look at Fat Bubba he really does have a resemblance to Kevin Spacey.
