Meet, "My little trophy." It took about forty hours to pull this little beauty out of the Petoskey Stone.

That's really nice work. How did you polish this piece?

Very nice! You did a great job. The polish looks really great for a petoskey stone.

I love both fish and Petoskey. That fish looks great. Am guessing it was all hand polished. You are becoming very good t this.

That's really nice work. How did you polish this piece? After finishing with 120 grit diamond burrs and hand riffler files- 240, 400, 600, 800, 1500 wet sanding by hand- aluminum oxide 3000 and denim buffing. Pretty much Jugglerguy's method for hand finishing. The key problem is discovering rough spots in the small spaces after moving on to other grits. I hope to afford a few sets of finer grit diamond burrs soon, to at least 400 grit. Thanks everyone, the next project is a black bear in Italian marble about six inches long.

Nylon bristle brushes with diamond paste is what I use after the hard burrs, paste on the hard felt burrs for some shapes can be helpful as well.

I have no experience with using diamond paste but I would like to try. Any recommendations on grits, brands, etc.?

Hey, I was wondering if you had any photos of the Petoskey in the rough?
