vegasjames When I get outside pictures, I'll let you know. I don't know what it would be if not siderite. Just curious: if there's silver bromide in this material, could a metallic spot in it possibly be silver?

I'm not sure, but I think the silver would be diluted in a mineral solution- sort of. vegasjames, that's a good question. Just to be clear- I think it's just the picture that makes it look metallic. Raining AGAIN today- no pics.

Just curious: if there's silver bromide in this material, could a metallic spot in it possibly be silver? The silver bromide (bromargyrite) is lime green. There is also silver chloride (chlorargyrite) in the mine but it reacts with light turning from green to brown or black.
Just got home from the mine. Great day of collecting.

There may be nothing metallic in this cab - but it's nevertheless gorgeous. And so are the other cabs. I'm especially partial to that Olympic poppy jasper.

I still think it is likely limonite. Limonite can polish up with a blackish metallic-like luster.

I believe "just a few" is a huge understatement. Looks like you and Jax made a great haul!

vegasjames - Just a few, huh? LOL! I see a lot of blue and green! Limonite it is then. It was a short digging day. Normally I stay out until it starts getting dark. Took Fishnpinball (Norm) out to look for stuff while he was in town. Stopped in an area where friend who had found a really cool fossil plate full of small starfish. Could not find any. Then went over to the mine. It was over 90F so Jax who was having a ball chasing lizards earlier was getting a little too hot and I had to use a tarp to make her a little shade shelter. I hit a great pocket and ran out of collection bags pretty quick. Norm got some great stuff as well and we headed on out about 3pm, which worked out great avoiding a lot of the traffic coming back in to town. I sent him some trip pics and I think he is going to post on it.
